If the draft were last year he would have been in competition with Eichel for #2 after McDavid. He's frequently been compared to Toews and Kopitar.

With Marner, Nylander, and Matthews all entering the lineup next season I would say thats your core for the future already. Surround them with good players and make the playoffs. Otherwise, run the risk of going full Oilers

 

Maybe trade for a goalie at the draft, like Jones and Schneider in years past. Freddy Andersen makes the most sense imo

Leafs have a chance here to rebuild around solid young prospects. I have to believe that this current regime is not dumb enough to throw it all away by signing Stamkos or other FA to long term deals

 

Suck again next year get another solid pick, play the kids. Losing is okay.

Stamkos may not be the guy, but the leafs definitely need to protect the kids from the toronto fishbowl. A stamkos to be the captain, the clubhouse leader, deal with media, and take the spotlight off the kids would be a good thing IMO.

Stamkos will get back to his earlier self when he was up with Crosby and Ovechkin in terms of offense. Playing for the Leafs is going to give him huge motivation.

just can't see Stammer at 1C, Matthews 2C, with Kadri and Bozak centring the 3rd and 4th lines at their salaries. Which is why I expect Kadri to be moved. He doesn't have too many friends in Leafs FO either, wasn't he suspended by the FO for a game or two last season?

 

leafs have plenty of player options.... so many it is going to be tough giving deserving minutes to guys like Leivo, Leipsic, another reason I expect Kadri or someone like JVR to be moved for defense

 

and Trouba is an excellent 22 yr old defenseman

Mainly a crapshoot. Any goalie could have a huge year, but they can be very valuable.
