Yeah I haven't bought into advanced hockey stats like I have for baseball. Not that I discount them all together, but I don't think the can just replace some of the traditional measures yet (maybe ever).

 

Goals scored > primary assists > puck possession, the last two could be intertwined.

yeah I don't discount the new stats, I just find them less compelling in a game like hockey than a game like baseball that has more defined outcomes.

 

also, glad the Habs are selling. If its me, I deal Markov.

This site may be to your liking. Includes both G/A/PP as well as puck possession stats, and how they compare to the rest of the NHL.

I also need to just learn more about the new stats. I just don't care as much about hockey (compared to baseball), so I'm probably more content to have a more 'casual' understanding of the game.

I'm happy the moved him, but I would have thought there was a better deal out there than Marko Dano (shite) and what will basically be a 2nd round pick. I'm underwhelmed as a kind Jets fan. At least they got something for him.

 

How much of a market do you really think there is going to be for 2 months of Andrew Ladd? In a vacuum, the deal is easily a win for the Jets.

 

The counter-point to this, of course, is that hockey GMs are almost all operating at Amaro-level and quite honestly there might have been a better deal out there.

 

I mean, in a league where Martin Erat gets traded for Filip Forsberg, basically anything is in play.

That's my point, crap gets traded for more than this every deadline, so I figure its a light return. Ladd produces some offense and has all the 'intangible' things that hockey guys seem to love.

 

At the end of the day, it really depends how you value Dano. The pick is going to be like 27th overall, which isn't worthless, but I figured a better deal was out there.

I mean, in all likelihood, Dano is a solid 3rd liner that you have some control over. The late 1st rounder isn't hugely valuable but it is something. It's a good package for what they gave up IMO.

Good trade for Flames. Hudler for a 2nd and 4th. No chance they would have resigned him. Last year's playoff appearance was over their heads.

2018 4th rounder for Reimer. That's fine. They weren't going to re-sign him and the trade market for goalies is nil.

 

The best thing about this is that Reimer won't be stealing anymore points for us.

This post was very fitting today.

 

Last year, Cody Franson gets traded for what, a 1st? This year, 70+ point guy Jiri Hudler fetches a 2nd. The same price as Roman god damn Polak. Then immediately after, shitbag Purcell fetches a 3rd. I don't know the possession numbers for these guys, but I have no idea what any of these f***s are doing. This is actually interesting to follow, though.
