Horses Fart Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 LoL...........the Leafs.....two goals against in 32 seconds! I f***in love it. #tanknation
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Laffs should finish 27th at this rate. 9.50% odds at McDavid, lol. Are there elite players available at #4?

Laika Community Moderator Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Strome/Marner/Hanifin These are all second-tier elite guys though? TSN recently had Hanifin down at #8 and comped him to Bouwmeester.
GoldBull Verified Member Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 McDavid, Eichel, Marner, Strome, Hanifin There's a bit of a drop-off after the top 5. Finishing 27th would guarantee one of those guys. Here's hoping.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 I would LOL if this season ended up in Toronto drafting a defenseman.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2015 Author Posted March 15, 2015 These are all second-tier elite guys though? TSN recently had Hanifin down at #8 and comped him to Bouwmeester. Hanifin is probably the worst out of them, but at the very least he should be a very nice building block. Or, at least one team will believe that enough to deal for the pick.

Or, maybe #5 and Reilly for Eichel!
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 If Hanafin turns into a number 1 Dman thats a really good pick. Number one defenceman are right up there with number 1 Centres in terms of value. I'd take a Karlsson, Subban, Doughty etc over a Patrick Kane, Tarasenko etc..
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 If Hanafin turns into a number 1 Dman thats a really good pick. the key word there is the if they rarely do, and even when it happens it often takes years with Dmen. The amount of highly drafted Dmen that bust for their original drafting team is alarmingly high (I don't have any studies, just my feeling).
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2015 Author Posted March 15, 2015 We should really explore a trade with Edmonton

Victor Hedman finally looks to be a number 1 D but it took him a while.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2015 Author Posted March 15, 2015 In contrast, Morgan Reilly is looking pretty good
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 2012 - 8 defensemen get drafted before Filip Forsberg. 2010 - Gudbranson over Johansen was terrible. St Louis drafts Tarasenko and Schwartz after D-men like Brandon Gormley, Derek Forbort, and Dylan McIlroth get taken. 2008 - Schenn #5 and Bogosian #3 (but no great forwards were taken immediately after) 2007 - Hickey #4, Alzner #5.... Voracek #7. Couture #9. 2006 - Erik Johnson #1..... Toews #3. Backstrom #4. Kessel #5. 2005 - Jack Johnson #3..... Carey Price #5..... Brian Lee #9 - Kopitar #11. 2004 - Cam Barker #3 right before Ladd and Wheeler (holy f*** Wheeler is old!). Obviously these are cherry picked examples and proof of NOTHING. But I think that if you did a proper analysis you'd find out that D-men get overdrafted vs. future value.

Jared Cowen at 9 also looks disgusting. I think defensive defenceman have always been overrated and its not just in the draft. Thing is you aren't going to get a number 1 Dman in FA or trade anymore so the only place you can get that is the Draft. Karlsson, Doughty, Subban, Ekblad, Pietrangelo were all high picks and look to be legit franchise Dmen.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2015 Author Posted March 15, 2015 Yeah, taking defensive defensemen high is usually a recipe to be s*** on.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 lol @ leafs. Beautiful tanking tonight.
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 lol @ leafs. Beautiful tanking tonight. Do you guys actually enjoy this? Seems like rock bottom and a complete embarrassment.
havok24 Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Do you guys actually enjoy this? Seems like rock bottom and a complete embarrassment. I'm well past the point where I even care anymore, but this is absolutely embarrassing. Just when you think this organization has hit "rock bottom", they somehow manage to outdo themselves the following year.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2015 Author Posted March 17, 2015 I think this is intentional, though. Dubas/Shanaban realize the reality. i honestly had a lot more shame and embarrassment when guys like Burke and Nonis couldn't figure out why we sucked.
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Speaking of embarrassments, is there a pro sports franchise more pathetic than the Oilers? Finishing up their 9th consecutive season with no playoffs, and will finish bottom-3 for the 5th time in six years.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Do you guys actually enjoy this? Seems like rock bottom and a complete embarrassment. The reward of a top 5 pick this year makes it bearable/
Zaun of the Dead Verified Member Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 why the hell would we be embarassed?? leafs til I die
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 The reward of a top 5 pick this year makes it bearable/ Still gonna be a loooong process. Long-term, you'll be working with Kessel (or whatever he brings back), Rielly, Gardiner, JVR, Bernier, Nylander and your 2015 1st and that's pretty much it in terms of valuable assets.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 I'd do it if I was the Leafs. Crappy overpaid roster with no chance of competing. You have to tank it out. Their problem is they waited too long and might still pick 5th from the bottom. Not going to get a bad player (we got Galchenyuk close to there), but (hopefully for me) not top tier prospects
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
