Apparently the Leafs are trying to flip Bozak for Zuccarello, then Zucs for picks (he's a UFA so). Considering the price of rentals so far (Timonen, Glencross, Jagr, Sekera, etc), hard to imagine that won't be a very nice haul. Sweet.

Why would the Leafs trade Kessel? The elite 27-year old locked up long term is part of the solution, not the problem.

Probably because his scoring prowess causes the league to overate his overall value and they can get more for him than he is really worth.

 

Can the Leafs be trusted not to overate the value of a potential return? This is an honest question because I don't follow hockey enough to know. It's my understanding that the Leafs have put their trust in a young anlytics guy but whether he's the real deal or just someone who has successfully marketed himself as such is something I don't know. From what I understand, all the hockey teams are still pretty much in the wilderness when it comes to analytics.
