Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 lol @ bringing back bernier, and then he coughs up the lead
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Please tell me Hutton knocked that puck away Yes sir! WHAT A SAVE!!
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Devils win, wild win, coyotes win, 4 points out of 4th!
canadiansportsjunkie Verified Member Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 What an amazing save and thank you Hutton!
GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2015 Author Posted February 4, 2015 Americans are pretty awesome. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/predators-fans-return-the-favour-sing-o-canada/
GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2015 Author Posted February 4, 2015 So basically, Bozak works his shot distance magic and that's why we pay him like $5m? Interesting to see Gardiner grade out pretty badly. Also, your cost of a win figure seems, well, low, at least with the direction salaries seem headed.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I have a hard time believing the results if Buffalo isn't last. Buffalo has been the worst team in the analytic ERA and it isn't even close. Definitely interesting though.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2015 Author Posted February 4, 2015 Observations: -Cody Franson; pls don't sign -Nazem Kadri is probably a #1 center -Tyler Bozak may not be awful??? this is news -Gardiner is just having a s***** season I guess? Understandable -Lol, Clarkson Have you managed to equate how many goals are equal to a win? Cause you've got RAA now, but no R/W, as far as I can tell, and with that you could basically get WAR. I, for one, welcome our new sentient robot overlords.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 They probably project to be. Mike Smith is getting pretty unlucky. Obviously this is just 5v5 but to already be the most out-shot team at Evens at game 51 tells me its going to be pretty damn hard to be a worse team than that.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2015 Author Posted February 4, 2015 Where'd you get all this data?
Frag Verified Member Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Behind the Net You should check out War On Ice. A lot more data there, except team statistics for this year.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 PHX shoots at an Avg Dist of 39 ft (29th), BUF at 35.8 (16th) which is something CORSI ignores. Buffalo is -540 in scoring chances while Arizona is -117. Scoring chances has the strongest correlation with goals from what I've seen and should make the avg shot distance meaningless. http://war-on-ice.com/teamtable.html
Nox Verified Member Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Buffalo is real bad. PHX is just bad.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Nazem Kadri is elite and drawing penalties and not taking any. Since 2012:

Name PenG

NAZEMKADRI 12.7

MATTDUCHENE 8.6

DUSTINBROWN 7.6

JEFFSKINNER 6.9

MARTINST.LOUIS 6.7

lol Clarkson is the opposite.
Nox Verified Member Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Cool stuff Resident Cyborg. I do think that teammate effects are too ingrained to build WAR off of exactly what you have here but this is still solid and fun to look at. I also really don't like War-on-ice's "Road to WAR" series of posts. I hope future attempts and versions of this will continue to ignore some of their misguided ideas.

I hold out hope for SportVU and other such technology to allow us to account for teammate effects on player performance (as well as better understand the game itself). Also, what issues did you have with War-on-Ice's "Road to WAR" posts?
GoldBull Verified Member Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 I was dying at the "Clarkson, will stumble and fall" line
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 I hear the leafs like big contracts. What would be willing to give up for Kane? Evander that is
King Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Not sure if you guys are following this, but the Kane/Jets situation is getting to be quite the mess. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/kane-skipped-game-after-incident-with-teammates/ Paul Maurice told reporters that they scratched Kane due to wearing a tracksuit, and now its coming out that he actually skipped the game because of an incident with his teammates (involving him wearing the sweats).

I've never liked him
King Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Possibly played his last game as a Jet, if true. He wasn't on the ice at practice this morning, BTW.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Kane wore a track suit when the Jets players gathered that morning — a violation of team policy. Following a brief workout and stretch, Byfuglien is said to have thrown those clothes into the shower to send a message to his teammate, according to sources. WTF? lol
