Some day, not too far from now, all of Dinger's fantasy teams will be geriatric and his complete lack of farm/youth/capital will make that wrinkly hole extremely difficult to climb out of.

Amaro style.

Did anybody retire this offseason that I should know about before an auction draft?

Stamkos became a monk and moved to Tibet. You'll probably want to release him before we start.

Jays, Habs, Raps, Vikes

Habs and Raps are pretty decent right now. Much more optimistic about the Raptors relative to the Habs tho.

Jays (urgh), Leafs (double urgh, but I like their recent hires), Raptors (promising), Colts (cool)

Overall, meh.

I went from worst to first in FC this year, I enjoy rebuilding.

But actually, I don't expect to finish higher than 3rd or 4th this season. Just need to make the crapshoot playoffs and laugh at Nox while the Penguins rest Sid and Geno during the fantasy finals.

Same list here but sub out Leafs for Sens. I feel so lucky to be a Colts fan to go from franchise QB to another and only have one bad season.

I just about choked when I saw Ottawa 2nd. I thought they would be better but not that much better. I expect them to be around the 7th to 9th seed. Have these projections in the past been accurate? I see a lot of projections I'm not a fan of.

There's a post saying the team level projections haven't been tested out of sample. But the underlying player projections have been. Said article also mentions what the model might be picking up on in terms of Ottawa's results in the past.

Ah I see. Yeah I think for Ottawa the projections will fail to take into account that their defence is flat out awful besides 2 players. If the defence can't get the puck out of the zone or to the forwards you can't really do much. I like the Islanders to be a lot better but I don't think by that much.

If the Sens' dmen can't move the puck, then why were they able to post better than average even strength shot/possesion numbers last year? I'm not saying I love the Sens projection either, but it might be picking up on something (and then possibly over-amplifying the effect).

Regardless it's something a little different than the "Team A will be bad because they had low points last year herp derp" that you tend to hear from mainstream media.

Because of Erik Karlsson. Besides him and Methot (who is injured and probably gets traded if they don't sign him) the defence is awful and post bad possession numbers, Ceci might take a step forward but Jared Cowen and Chris Phillips can't get the puck out of their zone and the former gives up a ton of shots in the home plate area which has a high correlation with goals.

I think we've moved past the team will be better because they had a low point total. Almost every pre season projection I read has Colorado a lot worse because of how unsustainable they were last year.

Sure, but how would you project his rate of in tight shots going forward? It's far more nuianced than looking at the past distribution.

I guess you haven't watched TSN lately ;).

Jared cowen is still a brutal hockey player. Iv never seen someone with worse positioning and when you have someone that had such a bad hockey IQ I don't think it's going to get better.

I think when media outlets are starting to look at advanced stats more and you will see it be used by the mainstream media. Tsn hired Yost who is pretty knowledgeable about analytics and is regualarly posting on the site now.

Hard to get excited for the leafs when were already talking about injuries to Bozak, Kessel, Franson and Booth. Bozak, Franson and Kessel could all miss the season opener.

So you're not a Leaf fan now? *sighs*

I am! Just not a happy one :( But I'm not a Sens nut hugger like BTDumn!

#Leafs announce Orr and McLaren have been placed on waivers :)

It's such a strange feeling seeing competent moves being made by the Leafs.

So I made the mistake of joining the hb boards to discuss hockey.

One of the first posts I read today, discussing orr/McLaren waivers topic..

This is absolutely disgusting. Sad day to be a Toronto fan.

We are going to get run, bullied, and booed out of our own building.

Ashton can't fight, can' t score, there is NO reason to have him on the team.

I predicted we will finish dead last in the east, now we will finish dead last in the league.

I don't think I'll return.
