ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 I live in Mtl so it would be great to have a team here again, but I doubt it will happen any time soon. Plus I have my doubts the support is here. The language and business issues are big "ifs" plus who knows how big the baseball market really is.

I was a huge Expos fan . One of the biggest regrets I have is not going to a game there in 94 . Such a good team that got f***ed by baseball and yes I believe MLB didn't want another Canadian team in the WS. However I read that article and think it will be a cold day in hell before Montreal gets another team . The City did not support them and don't deserve a team.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 It's annoying that we never make these signings. The Dodgers next year will have Puig, Ryu, and possibly Guerrero as key contributors, all acquired for relatively little cash. Don't worry. AA will try to acquire Ryu via trade, just in time for his decline year.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Dammit. Why couldn't we have hired Molitor for that??? Do we not need help with base running, bunting and infield?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Kind of sounds like the Dodgers are sort of almost asking Mattingly to quit...
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Dammit. Why couldn't we have hired Molitor for that??? Do we not need help with base running, bunting and infield? Not to mention pitching, throwing and catching.
TBJ12 Verified Member Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Not to mention pitching, throwing and catching. I don't think Molitor would have helped with that.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Not surprised. Glad stuff is happening anyway.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 LOL.....that's what I just thought. No kidding. I definitely didn't want him at 17.5 per.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2013 Author Posted October 22, 2013 I would absolutely have given him that. It's short and he's very good.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 I like this re-signing a lot. Lincecum is still a good pitcher even if he's not THE FREAK. Six straight years of making 30 starts, generates well-above average swinging strikes (11.1% in 2013), keeps his walk rate in check, gets above-average ground balls... a very appealing package. I'm a huge Lincecum fan (probably more than anyone on this board as I watch almost everyone of his starts), though $17.5 million per season is a lot for a pitcher who has had declining velocity and who last season looked liked he was done. He had a very respectable 2013 season, though I still wouldn't pay him that much per season. The one good thing about the deal is that it's only two years, so Lincecum should still be productive. I'm guessing Lincecum is worth more to the Giants than he is to another team since he's been there since 2007, won 2 Cy Youngs, apart of 2 World Series teams, and is a fan favourite. As for his walk rate, he did keep it in check in 2013, though previously his BB rates in 2011 and 2012 were worrisome. Even his 76 BB's in 2013 aren't that low. He's still generating strikeouts and swinging strikes despite diminished fastball velocity which is the plus. He's learning to pitch with a 90 mph fastball, though I still wouldn't pay him $17.5 million.
