John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Red Sox DFA Daniel Bard. JaysJournal thinks it'd be a good idea to take a flier on him. Idk, I'd rather the recently DFA'd Mark Rogers. Bard has lost it. You don't put up double digit BB/9 rates in AA after being a dominant reliever in the big leagues without some very serious mechanical or mental health issues.
digiblader Verified Member Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Well, Boston screwed up by trying him as a starter.. and of course there was the September collapse (which was partially his fault). Reminds us of Steve Blass, Dontrelle Willis, Ricky Romero, etc..
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 The Reds just officially added Billy Hamilton to the 40 man roster after outrighting Villareal to the minors.

Laika Community Moderator Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Man Victorino has been amazing this year. 5.3 fWAR through 104 games. And lots of people didn't like that signing, me included. 3/39 for a 32 year old coming off of a .321 OBP/ .704 OPS season. Can't predict ball
digiblader Verified Member Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Very true. It gives Boston insurance just in case Ellsbury ends up elsewhere (no way Boston wants a repeat of Carl Crawford).
digiblader Verified Member Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Yanks blowing out the White Sox coming back from a rain delay. Bad news for Tampa.. especially if they struggle with the Angels.
Candy Maldonado Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Henderson Alvarez hit a homerun. Hitting .368 on the season.
digiblader Verified Member Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Schoop is coming to the majors--Norfolk missed the playoffs due to a blowout win by Rochester vs. the SWB Railriders, and Norfolk losing to the Durham Bulls. As a result, Stinson, Schoop and Urrutia are being called up. Whether it's enough for Baltimore to make the postseason is another question.
digiblader Verified Member Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 (edited) Masterson hurt--bad news for Indians fans. Especially considering they're the weakest of the remaining contenders fighting for the 2nd wild card (Tampa, NYY, BAL, KC, CLE) While they're a high scoring team, their pitching is a bit thin--and their defense is awful, nearly as bad as this year's Jays(before guys like Goins got called up) Edited September 2, 2013 by digiblader

Can't predict ball He's close to 30 runs saved defensively this year. His previous best was 13 when playing CF for Philly. He is really benefitting from playing RF in Fenway.
digiblader Verified Member Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Boston lost to Detroit today. Boston better figure out how to beat Detroit this series--since they will likely face them in the ALCS or ALDS, they've got to find a way to beat them. Remember, this isn't some easy team they're facing--it's one of the elite teams they will need to play well against in October.
digiblader Verified Member Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 What's up with Tampa? LA is embarrassing them again.. are the Rays so upset with attendance and the fact David Price is almost certainly gone after this season (trade) that they stopped caring about winning and scoring? At this rate, NY, BAL and KC are probably feeling better about taking a shot at the wild card spot.
Nox Verified Member Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 are the Rays so upset with attendance and the fact David Price is almost certainly gone after this season (trade) that they stopped caring about winning and scoring? That must be it.
digiblader Verified Member Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 In reality. the Rays have a ton of slumping bats, including Longoria. They really needed to trade for another bat, but Rays ownership is broke--they can't afford offensive upgrades, and they still haven't got Jesse Crain back. Worse, Sam Fuld had to pitch 1/3rd of an inning in the 8th because their bullpen is taxed.
BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 It's amazing how fast things turn around. Tampa had that 22-5 run or whatever it was back in July. Nobody could beat them. Now they've lost 8 of 9 and are 12-18 in their past 30. Cleveland, Baltimore, NYY right up their ass.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 Padres, Venable Agree To Two-Year Deal The Padres and Will Venable have agreed to a two-year, $8.5MM contract, according to MLB.com's Corey Brock (on Twitter). The new contract will buy out Venable's final two years of arbitration eligibility. Venable is represented by Turner Gary Sports. Great deal for the Padres
digiblader Verified Member Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 Forgot to also mention the team can't call anybody up--Durham is in the postseason, and expected to make a deep run.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2013 Author Posted September 3, 2013 Mark Buehrle and J.P. Arencibia are the third best battery at preventing the running the game. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2013s-top-batteries-at-preventing-the-running-game/ Arencibia also has one of the worst batteries with Josh Johnson, and is 25th among qualified catchers himself, behind notable names such as Tony f***ing Cruz.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2013 Author Posted September 3, 2013 ^I genuinely thought that was Rochester's lineup until I looked up Like any one of those players outside of Willingham could very easily be in AAA and no one would bat an eye

The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/09/poll-will-adam-dunn-and-paul-konerko-retire.html Both Konerko and Dunn are contemplating retirement, which would mean the White Sox get even a little bit more worse. I can't see Dunn calling it quits, especially since he'll get 15MM next year. What do you guys think, if Dunn came back even for just 2 more years, he'll probably reach 500 homeruns. While being steroid free(I would guess). Does he get into the HOF?
