Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Poor Timmy, he'd get blown up in the AL. If you struggle in the NL West, chances are you'll do worse in any other division.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 And at the worst possible time--they've got a make-or-break stand coming up with the Red Sox, Rangers, Rays, and Dodgers coming up. Lose these series, and the Yankees will almost certainly miss the playoffs for the first time since 2008, likely costing Cashman and Girardi their jobs in the process. Agree re missing the playoffs But no one will blame Girardi...

digiblader Verified Member Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Andrew Bailey is done: Scott Lauber @ScottLauber Farrell: "Fairly significant" damage to Andrew Bailey's labrum and shoulder capsule. Surgery a "definite option" #RedSox Bullpen issues like this could be an opportunity for Baltimore & Tampa to topple the Red Sox's playoff hopes--and with Texas likely getting Garza, Boston is going to have to continue scoring a ton to stay alive--Buchholz isn't due back soon either. As a result, Bailey has likely pitched his last game in Boston--that deal is officially a bust, as Reddick has become a key piece in Oakland, Raul Alcantara has been a great starter in A+ ball for Oakland--and is the A's #10 prospect. Miles Head is #8.. but has struggled in AA. Bailey will be non-tendered this offseason due to this injury, forcing Boston to seek bullpen help yet again this offseason, while trying to resign Napoli, Ellsbury, Salty, etc.
digiblader Verified Member Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Chris Dickerson has been DFA'd by the O's. Henry Urrutia has been called up, hoping to spark the O's to a playoff spot. However, that pitching needs to improve..
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 It seems like Garza to Texas is off, due to a failed medical: http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/news/garza-trade-to-rangers-falls-through-after-medical-records-exchanged-000611579.html

Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Albert Pujols will be 34 next season, and has only put up 4.1 fWAR 1.5 years into his front loaded 10 year contract (owed $212 million over the next 8 years aka 26.5 AAV) These first 3-4 years were supposed to justify (to a degree) the later years where he is older and declining. Last year was mediocre, and this year has been a trainwreck so far. So it now looks like they have a declining 34 year old for 8 more years at $26.5 a pop. That's not even acknowledging the potential age controversy, that he may actually be older. I think this will definitely go down as the worst contract of all time.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Seriously, who knew the Pirates pitching staff was going to be this good??? Best ERA in the majors (3.09) by a significant margin.

Could quite possibly be worse than Alex Rodriguez. At least ARod had 3 solid beast years during his stupid 10 year contract.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Pedroia going to get paid: - By Jeff Todd [July 19 at 10:12pm CST] 10:07pm: The Red Sox made a formal extension offer to Pedroia over the All-Star break, tweets Gordon Edes of ESPNBoston.com. He quotes the source as saying that the "ball is in their court," apparently referring to Pedroia and his advisers. Edes notes that the offer could exceed $100MM, though he bases that figure on the ballpark figures reported earlier by Passan.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 (edited) God, 5-6 years of Pedroia for 100-120M or similar would be a bargain Edited July 20, 2013 by G-Snarls
DwightDM Verified Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Marte's ~4 WAR or so to date has really helped the Pirates too. Also, how much would Russel Martin and his contract help out the Jays right now. Nope don't need him, we're set with JP!!
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Nuts @JonHeymanCBS: 95 games in, kemp, crawford & ethier have combined 15 HR & 66 RBI. imagine if they get going. #dodgers
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 McCutchen's a stud. Their lineup depth is key too, lots of good players everywhere. Pick one player to start a team with now. Most would pick Trout but McCutcheon would be a real consideration for me.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Machado and Lawrie. Machado is getting way too much hype and mostly because of the doubles thing. He's having a nice year but isn't an elite hitter. I know, was a joke bro. 1-Trout 2-Harper 3-McCutchen Toolsy OF is the best deal
Jays Verified Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Overbay and Wells batting 4 and 5 for the yankees today. That's not as bad as Tim Mckarver who cited Kuroda's win/loss record being a lot better at home than on the road and said it was surprising because the ball really flies out of the stadium. It's not like the opposing pitcher has to pitch in the same stadium right?
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 McCarver is possibly the worst commentator in sports.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 The pitching the Pirates have got from their starters is pretty amazing. Liriano and Burnett have been very good. Cole has been solid. Locke has the lowest ERA but his peripherals show he should come back to Earth soon. I'm not sure when Wandy is coming back, but they definitely have good depth in their rotation.
