G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Exciting play by Pence to keep the no-no going to finish the 8th: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2013_07_13_sfnmlb_sdnmlb_1&mode=video&content_id=28885181&tcid=vpp_copy_28885181 Yeah great catch Sandoval helped him out too: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2013_07_13_sfnmlb_sdnmlb_1&mode=video You always need a few of those plays and some luck to finish a no-hitter Pence made that catch, and also hit a HR and a triple. Great game.

digiblader Verified Member Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Don't expect any big trades in Boston http://bostonherald.com/sports/red_sox_mlb/boston_red_sox/2013/07/no_pressure_for_sox_to_trade?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A%20bostonherald/sports/baseball%20%28Red%20Sox%20%26%20MLB%20-%20BostonHerald.com%29 Considering the team needs to protect their young prospects, trying to avoid a repeat of the A-Gone trade disaster(which cost them Anthony Rizzo, who could've been playing 1st right now). Any moves will be bullpen related--they don't need more pitching or another bat, considering they're already a strong team as is.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Verlander no-hit bid through 6...oh wait, is that too early? Too late.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Watching this Canada - USA border battle softball match is ... kinda painful.
digiblader Verified Member Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Rays win yet again--and they have surpassed Texas in the wild card. Suddenly, the Rangers are in trouble--their lack of depth in pitching due to injuries is starting to show. Luckily, Ogando, Lewis, Darvish, etc will be back soon--but they desperately need another bat(preferably an OF)--and they need Andrus to start hitting as well. Otherwise, Baltimore or Cleveland/Detroit will surpass them. I have no confidence in the Yanks or Jays contending right now..but we'll see what happens.
digiblader Verified Member Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Thornton deal's looking pretty bad already--he served up a walk-off single off of Josh Donaldson. A's win. Farrell doesn't know how to utilize him either--he was used against right-handers. No surprise to see Oakland win.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Thornton paying dividends already ... but not for Boston. Takes the loss.
digiblader Verified Member Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Rays are now only 2.5 back. Boston's going to have an interesting 2nd half.. they need to get Xander Bogaerts up soon.. Holt won't last at 3rd base(he was a bit awkward there.) They need Buchholz back as well. Rays are in very good shape--they don't really need any upgrades, other than getting Roberto Hernandez out of that rotation when Cobb returns. Archer's been pitching well--I have a good feeling they'll be playing in October--but whether it's a wild card spot or outright winning the AL East is difficult to call. Rangers need many upgrades before the deadline--expect them to be aggressive with getting Garza, and hopefully another bat. Orioles need pitching--and more pitching. Their bats will only take them so far. Indians need another starter--Tigers need a lot of bullpen help.

digiblader Verified Member Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Not even the Jays wanted him..everyone hates him.
digiblader Verified Member Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 More on Aceves--what a jerk! They should just release him--what a headcase. If it was Joe Maddon as his coach, he'd kick Aceves' butt. http://www.masslive.com/redsox/index.ssf/2013/07/alfredo_aceves_said_he_was_hur.html

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 I just called in to Mad Dog Radio to discuss the Jays and Dickey. They are set up for All Star Festivities and taking a lot of calls. Bautista was on earlier being interviewed. They discussed the Dickey trade, the Blue Jays, and the AL East for several minutes after my call. Steve Phillips and Adam Schein, the hosts, both think the Jays finish 2nd in the AL East this year. Wow. I doubt it but was interested to hear their opinion.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Could be a good read when it comes out: @jonmorosi: Bud Selig says he's going to write a book about his 50-plus years in MLB, has "hundreds of boxes of notes" ready to go. @mikeallen
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Selig on the air now. Getting cranked up on coffee I guess.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Sid sixeiro says that Alfonso Soriano would be a fit for the Jays. I have no idea where he would even come up with that, like the Jays don't have enough guys who can only hit HR, don't walk, strike out a ton and not get on base, let alone his contract for next year.

I think he had a point... But maybe not one he was trying to make. If the Jays are going to get Garza and not pay a kings ransom, maybe he takes a big bloated contract in return.
