Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Marlins Working To Trade Nolasco As Soon As Possible The Marlins have been aggressively working to move starting pitcher Ricky Nolasco as soon as possible, tweets ESPN's Buster Olney. So far the Orioles, Yankees, Diamondbacks, Padres, Rockies, and Giants have been connected to the righty, and the Marlins' aggressive approach was noted by Andy Martino of the New York Daily News yesterday. Moving Nolasco with over a month remaining until the July 31st trade deadline makes sense, because there's added value to a contender in having him for all of July. Nolasco, 30, has a 3.68 ERA, 6.9 K/9, 2.2 BB/9, 0.81 HR/9, and 41.6% groundball rate in 100 1/3 innings this year, making him one of the better available starting pitchers. He has about $6MM remaining on his contract, after which he'll be a free agent. San Francisco Giants 99% Others 1%

z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 "Dylan Bundy will have his right forearm/elbow examined after having a setback on Monday while throwing from 120 feet. Advice: Bundy will be examined by both team orthopaedic surgeon Dr. John H. Wilckens and Dr. James Andrews. The right-hander had been prescribed rest and given a platelet-rich plasma injection for his pain, but clearly that hasn't done a trick. It's unfortunate, but you have to wonder if Tommy John surgery is a foregone conclusion at this point. More: Roch Kubatko on Twitter (Rotoworld.com)" Damn you Bundy.... More like Damn you Orioles... why didn't you get this over with sooner...
digiblader Verified Member Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Will Middlebrooks optioned to AAA Pawtucket. A 60/9 K/BB ratio, 30% K rate, and a .192 average pretty much sealed his fate. Really hurts the Red Sox--Iglesias will get exposed badly offensively, especially since he's only a part-timer who's been playing more because of defense. His unsustainable .426 average is bound to drop with regular playing time--remember, he was basically a .200 hitter with no power in AAA. At least Middlebrooks will have his 3 HR game vs. Dickey and co. early in the season to think about while he tries to learn how to hit and walk. Brandon Snyder will be recalled to replace Middlebrooks.

I love when Red Sox and Yankees prospects don't live up to the hype, it's almost as though some people over rate prospects for those two teams for some reason...

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Remember John Buck's crazy April? It was, not unexpectedly, a flash in the pan. Feel better? MLBTR: Buck, 32, has hit .176/.263/.243 in 152 plate appearances since May 5th. Anthony Recker serves as Buck's backup. Mets fans await the big league debut of Travis D'Arnaud, the key piece in the R.A. Dickey trade over the offseason, as D'Arnaud recovers from a broken bone in his foot. At last check, D'Arnaud was cleared to run in water. If D'Arnaud needs more than a month, Buck could still be moved in August given his $6MM salary and lackluster hitting. The Mets' goal should be modest with a Buck trade; he can back up somewhere and they can receive some salary relief.

It's almost like sample sizes matter or something and Buck and Vernon Wells aren't actually world beaters (anymore).

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 I wonder what Arencibia's stats are since May 5th. I couldn't find a site that let me pick a start date for stats (side note: Someone make a site that can do that and win all the internets! Might I suggest arbitrarystartdates.com?) but here are his numbers for May and June May: .208/.232/.375 June: .215/.268/.385 So, "Better than John Buck", if that's the standard by which things should be measured. It's really, really sad that JPA's stats are INFLATED by his .253/.267/.566 April.
