i remember how insane I thought the Pirates were for abandoning Stetson Allie as a pitcher after less than 30 IP...well he's now hitting to a slash line of .325/.405/.588. He may be 22 in A ball but still impressive and some are saying he has the most power in the Pirates org.

Chris Sale missing his next start with mild tendonitis in left posterior shoulder. Fantasy players...if you learned anything from last year, hit up Chris Sale owners there will be "I knew this would happen" panic going on.

Dickey says Hi?

4.31 xFIP says hi too lol. I don't think he's a true ace, per say.

We'll see, pitching hurt does a world of hurt.

I'm not buying that. He pitched through a fractured rib or something ridiculous for like 6 weeks last year and pitched very well.

Sure would, Buehrle's been sweet his last 2 starts. Hence us winning the majority of games lately.

Buehrle and dickey will be refusing to come out of games if the pen keeps giving up runs after they come out. was glad Gibbons let RA work out of his problem in the game even though he had more than 100 pitches last time. those 2 have been pretty good the last few starts. after that it's russian roulette

Don Mattingly rips his own team and possibly management

"Must-read strong comments from #Dodgers mgr Don Mattingly pregame seemed to point finger at

not only lack of "mental toughness" from his players but also at poor construction of the team.

"We gotta find a team with talent that will fight and compete like a club that doesn't have that talent," he said, pointing to last year's team which led the NL West by 5 1/2 games at the end of May despite a far less-talented lineup.

"I felt we got more out of our ability (last year). I don't know about being tougher but I felt we got more out of our ability.

"There has to be a mixture of competitiveness. It's not 'Let's put an All-Star team together and the All-Star team wins.' It's finding that balance of a team that has a little bit of grit and will fight you. And also having talent to go with it.

"All grit and no talent isn't going to make you successful. But all talent and not grit isn't going to get you there either."

Latos faced Bruce, pushed and yelling him in the dugout for the weak throw to the home plate.

how much would it cost to have him come to Toronto to make the same speach? just change the names and it all fits very well for the jays.

Jonathan Schoop has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in his back and will need 6-8 weeks of rest.

Schoop will meet with another doctor later this week for a second opinion, but it seems doubtful that the diagnosis will change. The 21-year-old infielder was batting .268/.331/.386 with three homers and 18 RBI in 34 games at the Triple-A level. It is no longer a certainty that he will reach the major leagues this season. More disappointment in a disappointing season.

What's going on with Verlander? 59 pitches through two innings, he's killing me lately.

Velocity is down. At first I thought it was just because he wasn't going into games quite as late which is when he often ramped up the fastball but it's down all around.

I think I read something about his mechanics being slightly funky, and that they were working to correct it.

Bradenton's Alen Hanson is 4 for 5 with 2 triples, double and single. His teammate and fellow top 100 prospect Gregory Polanco has 2 singles, a double and HR. Neither will get to bat in the 9th though unless Tampa comes back from 8 down. Both should be top 50 mid-season prospects IMO.

Yeah I just read a couple things where he's been looking at a lot of video and isn't happy with his release point. This is what is great about a Verlander, his quest for perfection, has him knowing everything about his own mechanics. He watches video and uses Brooks baseball pitch by pitch so if anyone can fix their own mechanical flaws it's him. I did read that his velocity was actually over 96 on average in this start and his previous start when he was rocked

So Chris Sale has shoulder tendinitis. As someone who's had that, ouch.
