  1. IIRC didn't Vlad (and/or his agent) say he isn't interested in signing a contract with deferrals? Doesn't mean they can't tack on extra years to lower the AAV though. That should still be on the table.
  2. Yeah the thing that doesn't make sense about this is, why would Keith Pelley already be on the outs as CEO? He seems to have a very good relationship with Rogers.
  3. Me neither. It kind of reeks of desperation. Mariners did it too when they were chasing Ohtani in 2017.
  4. Sasaki just announced on his Instagram account he's signing with the Dodgers
  5. These posts on X have been making the rounds. Note the times of these posts.
  6. If he goes to the Dodgers that's the only MLB salary/bonus he'll make in his career, because the Dodgers will destroy his arm. Ohtani is also a bat and chose the Dodgers, Yamamoto was able to get paid right away and chose the Dodgers, so he's paid even if his arm gets destroyed. I think Sasaki will choose the Blue Jays.
  7. IIRC didn't the Mariners trade for more bonus money in 2017 during the original Ohtani sweepstakes, only for him to sign with the Angels?
  8. Did Rosenthal say who the 3rd team is, or it's a mystery team? Because all I'm seeing is Mets and Jays in these new Alonso rumours.
  9. My Santander take (might be a hot take) is that he would primarily DH here instead of play in LF, where it's widely perceived there is a bigger hole. I think the Jays are higher internally on Joey Loperfido's outlook for 2025 compared to Will Wagner's. FanGraphs Depth Charts currently lists Loperfido as the strong side of a LF platoon, while they currently list Wagner as the strong side of a DH platoon.
  10. The 3 things I've seen speculated about the most by talking heads on the radio and such are: Pete Walker Dunedin complex Jays being industry leaders on the splitter (one of Sasaki's main pitches in his arsenal)
  11. Robert Murray, who broke the Jeff Hoffman to the Jays signing, said on his podcast today that the Mets checking in on Vlad via trade now, means Cohen will likely be a player for him next winter when he is a free agent.
  12. From Passan's article: https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/43401000/yankees-rangers-added-clubs-sasaki-join
  13. Jeff Passan of ESPN has reported that 23-year-old Roki Sasaki has narrowed his selection down to three teams: the two southern California teams are unsurprising but the fact that the third is Toronto is a pleasant surprise. Sasak says he will make his decision in the next ten days.

  15. I never bought into the $20-25M number that Davidi and BNS were putting out there. After the non-tender deadline my update had the Jays with $47M to spend to reach $250M CBT according to FanGraphs. Subtract the AAVs of Gimenez, Yimi, Sandlin, and Hoffman from that while factoring that they're all taking a roster spot each of at least someone making league minimum, and you end up around the $11M FanGraphs says they have left now. Cots and Spotrac's estimates have been higher than FanGraphs all offseason, and remain so now. I could see them spending right up around the 2nd CBT threshold at $261M though. According to Cots, their 2023 year end CBT payroll was $5M above the 2nd CBT threshold, so it seems as though they have spent around there before. Maybe they spend more aggressively earlier, and open the season there instead of end it there after in-season acquisitions.
  16. If the Jays opening day CBT payroll in 2025 is the same as 2023 and 2024 at around $250 million, here's how much the Jays should have to spend in the offseason according to FanGraphs, Cots, and Spotrac. All 3 sites seem to be updated with the Hoffman signing: FanGraphs: $11 million (https://www.fangraphs.com/roster-resource/payroll/blue-jays?season=2025) Cots: $15 million (https://legacy.baseballprospectus.com/compensation/cots/al-east/toronto-blue-jays/) Spotrac: $20.5 million (https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/toronto-blue-jays/overview/_/year/2025)
  17. This doesn't deserve it's own thread because it's Moronsi, but this post makes it sound like the Blue Jays and Hoffman might be close to agreeing on a multi year deal.
  18. Kirk and the Blue Jays are settling at $4.6M per Feinsand.
  19. And Kirk too, unless I missed his settlement number getting reported.
  20. FanGraphs Depth Charts projects them for 39.3 WAR, so it seems ZiPS is lower on the Blue Jays than Depth Charts (which IIRC use Steamer projections). Depth Charts also projects the Blue Jays to be the 5th worst team in the American League, so unless ZiPS is also much lower on numerous other teams, ZiPS likely also projects the Blue Jays to finish around 5th worst in the American League.
  21. I also saw somewhere Clement - $1.97M
