    SWR and BV were the quickest off the field (SWR is already in the dugout and BV right behind him) after the out at 1st, the other players followed. So not sure when JS asked for the appeal. Notice the umps haven't moved. If JS asked for an appeal all he had to do was send SWR back out to the mound BEFORE all the players crossed into foul territory - then execute the appeal. but SWR is in the dugout Big Mac might have been the only one ready for the appeal at 3rd - he's still on the bag

    Watched it again and from numerous angles, Bateman made the catch and looked a little confused so he threw the ball to Josh Smith at 2nd who then threw to 1st for the 3rd out. After Bateman made the catch but before the 3rd out was made the runner at 3rd scored. (makes no difference if he tagged or not) SWR and BV were the first ones off the field followed immediately by the rest of the Jays, I didn't see umps make any motion - they remained on the field. I think everyone was distracted at both runners taking off with only 1 out Had Bateman come up firing to 1st that run might not have counted The runner at 3rd just left early so it's up to the fielding team to appeal, it's like a runner missing a base or back tracking and forgetting to re-touch. No different - if u don't appeal the play stands. Baseball.

    yea even without tagging, it's an appeal play. It's not on the ump to see if a runner left early, it's on the fielding team. It's confusing but they got it right.

    The Jays got the 2 outs that's not the issue, however the runner at 3rd scored BEFORE the 3rd out was made - so that's what they call a "timing play" - hence that run scores. Had the Jays appealed to 3rd that runner would have been out, instead they left the field at which point that run is in the books.

    Yea I believe if you do not appeal the runner gets the base if he left early, very rare situation

This is extremely difficult to change in a hitter When I'm trying to figure out if a batter is actually good, OBP is usually the first stat I check. Sanchez's OBP was never any good (average at best, in his best season)
