  1. Every time we make a move early in free agency, i get reminded of us signing Morales. Its not always a good thing lol.
  2. Hurry up and profit off this before he tests positive for something. Not buying the "500 pushups a day" story lol.
  3. Totally agree. We should have a lot of great options in Buffalo if we need to bring guys up. I am very high on Merryweather but seems like he just can't stay healthy. Really want Bauer and if its 5 or less years, id be disappointed if it doesn't happen...Assuming that he was willing to come here of course.
  4. With Ray on board, i originally thought he would be penciled in as our 5th starter but the more I thought about it, he might be looked upon as our 4th. For our 5th starter, I think we'll go with whoever shows up to spring training with better stuff between Roark & Stripling. The other person will be sent to the Pen as our long guy/6th starter. We are already financially committed to both so I think we'll be stuck there. I believe we'll make one big splash to get an ace (Bauer) or a good number 2 (Paxton, Morton, Tanaka), or maybe even Odorizzi/Klueber/Archer depending on how things go. So what are your expectations? 1/2 Ryu and ? 3 Pearson 4 Ray 5 Stripling/Roark
  5. But wouldn't you feel more comfortable at overpaying Bauer with the money used for Ray and replace him with a guy like Shoemaker or an equivalent talent? Just a Hypothetical since Bauer can say he doesn't care to actually come here. Just haven't loved our use of money towards guys like Garica/Anderson/Roark. Its been like 45 million for those guys over a few seasons for nothing in return basically. Go overpay the elite talent's like Ryu using that wasted money instead.
  6. Agreed, I was only using them as examples as to how allocating money to particular players can hinder what you do elsewhere. I dont know our budget for this season but if this move hinders us in anyway to get top tier players, id be be upset. Guys like Bauer have said he will most likely go to whoever pays him the most. Lets see how things unfold though.
  7. Oh I agree. No team will be perfect in their spending. Not everyone can be a hit and sometimes its on the player himself for sucking and misleading the team into think they were good. My only point was that we can definitely be upset if lets say, we get outbid for a player we want, like a Bauer, because we allocated 8 million to Ray. I'm always for spending on high end talent like Ryu than I am on questionable guys, especially early in the free agency period. I wanted 2 of Ray/Shoemaker/Walker to fill out the bottom of rotation anyways but thought they'd be given whatever leftover budget we had. Particularly Ray and Shoemaker, Walker will probably get prioritized higher by teams. We obviously have to trust our management has a plan in attacking free agency so let's just wait and see.
  8. I'm happy to have Ray back as long as he's plugged in as our 5th starter. I never understood people who say we shouldn't care about money. The jays do not have an unlimited budget so its only fair that people can be upset at the allocation of the budget. Guys like Roark and Grichuk are taking up 22 million currently. You're telling me we wouldn't be better if we used that money to land Springer at 22 million on a 5 year deal? That is why people can get upset at throwing money at inferior players.
  9. I think watching them, you can tell Bo can would be better suited at both positions. I consider Biggio as an average 2b and a below average 3b. Bo would be a plus defender at 2b and I would guess an average 3b at worst. While many love Biggio, I cant think of a defensive position he would be considered above average in.
  10. I think it would be assumed we would get an extension done before trading any of those 3. We cannot give a top prospect for a year rental of Lindor when there's so many SS's available next year. Heck, we could throw money at Simien/Simmons/Didi/Kim if we get that desperate for a SS this year.
  11. From the limited action I saw, I don't think Biggio is a good 3rd baseman. He seems so uncomfortable with the way he throws from there. I'd rather give Bo a chance or who knows, we might pickup someone from agency to play there.
  12. If people had to choose between Biggio/Teo/Gurriel... who would you prefer to send out in a trade?
  13. Hope he passes on the cake this year lol
  14. Somebody sign a major league contract already. f*** lol
  15. Loll I feel your pain. Posting here put me on pins and needles at first.
  16. Worked out pretty well for the Dodgers and Betts. Not saying we're on the cusp of a world series like the Dodgers but trading for Lindor gives you the rights to negotiate an extension now. The trade only happens if we're able to get the extension done which is the advantageous part of trading for him. In free agency, its a total free-for-all and you're not guaranteed anything.
  17. So you think he isnt good enough to opt out of his contract but want to trade valuable pieces just to get him? Why not just keep our assets and use that money towards the current crop of free agents? I think going your route should be Plan B but with us going after Lindor instead and ensuring an extension is part of the package.
  18. His bat and baserunning should improve a lot, which is mostly what we care about. Not holding my breath on the fielding but we can hope.
  19. I dont but I love the attitude at least lol. Ive never see a player who can't play 1B move to another position and have better success there, usually they become DHs. It was crazy seeing the amount of mistakes at 1B like dropping simple pop ups. I guess mistakes like knowing when to go for a ball and when to cover the bag could get eliminated. Also his ability to catch short hops and stretch sucked too.
  20. I think that was the main part of the "ammo clip" pic people were ignoring. He looked a lot thinner. Cant wait to see him next year. If he could play 3B then that would open up a lot of things for us. Tellez can play 1B and we can rotate guys through the DH spot.
  21. For sure. It just seems too good to be true to get even 3 of them. Wonder when the action will begin.
  22. So Steve Phillips was on Overdrive just now and he was asked who he thinks the Jays should go after. He responded with Bauer, Springer, Turner and Hand. Not one of them but all lol.
  23. That Jim Bowden piece was depressing. Was waiting to see the Jays name on any of the big guys but...
  24. I'm more interested in his lack of a gut. Unless thats one great "suck in" job, he's trending in the right direction. Compare that to the guy who started the season lol.
  25. Shatkins have both gone on record that they will spend. Then we have reports of how the Jays are being aggressive in the market. We can't even say its fake news since we landed Ryu last year. We have an exciting up and coming team, in addition to having our owners largely unaffected by the pandemic, relatively apeaking. All that makes me excited about our chances this offseason.
