  1. But every month that you can delay increases your odds of things returning to normal. There is obviously a breaking point where you can't keep delaying things and it seems the MLB has chosen that to be only 1 month. There's no prescendence for something like this, which is why I guess we have a ton of difference in opinion.
  2. The players are getting paid in full while playing 8 less games. How anyone could have a problem with that is beyond me. Them wanting to start as late as possible increases the chance for fans to be at games. Times have been tough for everyone so MLB players are delusional if they think they don't have to make any sacrifices and what they're being asked to do for this upcoming season is very very reasonable. If you're concerned for next years CBA then just agree to this for the upcoming season only. That will give both sides a better indication of how beneficial it is to both sides.
  3. Report: MLB proposes 154-game season to players' union https://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/2103892 Sounds like a perfect scenario. How can the players not accept this...
  4. I think we'd like to see Merryweather show he can do 1-1-1-1 for now lol. Guy is 28 and just coming to the Majors now while he's had elite stuff all this time. Poor guy can't stay healthy at all.
  5. There's no way he's getting anything close to 4/56.
  6. Shatkins have been pretty transparent about their intentions this offseason. If they said that their heavy lifting is done, I believe them. They said they want the flexibility to be able to go after some of the free agents next offseason. So I'd say there's about a 5% chance of us getting him where his market would totally have to collapse.
  7. Ya I agree... seems like we're gonna employ the "opener" thing and try to complete a lot of games by committee. Personally I can't stand that type of baseball.
  8. Hes just living up to his first name lol.
  9. We have a few years before our core young guys need to get paid themself. That will severely limit what we can do on the free agent market. Look at Houston, they're having a hard time keeping their current guys let alone adding new talent to their team.
  10. I tend to agree unless you consider the player generational (Trout/Betts/etc) Being locked into bad long term contracts is franchise crippling. It's something I can respect of Shatkins. They are financially smart even if it can piss me off when we don't spend lol.
  11. And Turner? Even Arod transitioned there but you know... the roids... After 1B, 3B requires the least amount of mobility on the diamond, which is why guys can play there at an older age. You just need your reflexes to be spot on, which is why we call it the hot corner.
  12. The part that can make it bad are the player options. If he sucks, he won't use it and if he plays great, there is a chance he opts out and leaves for almost nothing. The fact he added a player option in 2022 means he intends to probably opt out there and skip next seasons stacked FA class. That part of it makes it a lose/lose but getting 2 years of prime Arenado for what they gave up is easily worth the risk imo.
  13. But is the contract still 35 per with the Rockies paying 50 mill of it. That's what makes the trade for the Cards a good one no?
  14. I tend to agree. We will never be able to acquire an Ace at this price in a normal year. Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs etc. Would usually put us out of the bidding. Just don't see it happening after shatkins' comments saying the heavy lifting is done.
  15. I think we're all wondering what position Martin will thrive in. Really hope he can become an elite CFer since we already have Groshans to take a spot in the infield. Martin can start off as a corner OFer and transition to CF as soon as Springer is ready to transition to a corner OF spot.
  16. I wouldn't mind having Bauer make up 25% of our payroll. I think we just came off a season where Grichuk/Roark did the same for us last year lol.
  17. It sounded like he really wanted to set the record for AAV for a pitcher on a short term deal. Now whether that was reasonable or not is debatable but with him being the only ace on the market, there was a chance it could happen. With his most likely suitor (Mets) possibly being out now, wonder who will step up.
  18. Rather have Semien at his deal with his upside, and the possibility of getting a pick for him next year if he leaves is a sweet bonus.
  19. Losing like 20% of your net worth whether it's temporary or not is a massive hit to anyone. You don't go around throwing your money in other places for fun at a time like this.
  20. Maaannn... why couldn't this happen at the start of free agency. We would have gotten everyone at a cheaper price lol.
  21. That would be a dream number but I'd imagine other teams can easily match or beat that. I think it takes 3/100.
  22. After the Springer signing, I have a hard time believing players would be against Toronto given our current team dynamics. Players will go wherever they can they can contribute and win. If we were average or crap then I'd agree, we lose out probably. We got a bunch of great vets to come here in the early 90s and there wasn't even the Internet available for ppl to learn about us. Its 2021 now, if you build it, they will come.
  23. What type of contract would people here be comfortable giving Bauer and one that they think he would accept? He doesn't have a long enough track record to warrant a long extension at huge dollars but is good enough for a short contract at a huge number. You'd hate to lock yourself down to someone who might not end up being elite as his contract says he is and ruin possible future moves.
  24. It would only make sense if that 4 million was on a long term contract but for 1 year it's laughable lol.
  25. If you had to pick between Springer and Arenado at their respective contracts now... who would you pick? Ignore the fit part for now since we could have made a semien type move but for an CFer.
