  1. You typically don't get to buy players at the deadline. Usually it involves trading your prospect capital unless the pitcher flat out sucks. We can save some of that if we go after a pitcher now with minimal risk.
  2. Yup... that would be the type of offer where reports come out saying we were in constant talks but couldn't make it work. Sanchez just got 4 million dollars yesterday.
  3. I agree the offseason was already good but I'm saying that only because it seems we're still in the market for another starter. I feel like a 1 year deal is a lot better than giving a multi year deal or spending assets at the deadline.
  4. I debated putting that in there tbh because i have nothing but trying to use my own logic here. MLB teams are subsidizing all these minor league teams and after a point, the ROI probably isn't worth it. It's why we saw cuts during the pandemic and when the league realizes it did nothing but save money for them, they might push for more of that in the next CBA. Let's see...
  5. Should have signed Paxton if we're so against a 2 year deal.
  6. I don't understand the "showed a lot of interested" but never made an offer thing. Guy signed for a 1/8.5 deal so if there was genuine interest, an offer would have been made. Were they expecting a minor league deal here? Sounds like the Jays like to lead some players on lol.
  7. I wasn't saying to scrap all minor league teams but am expecting the MLB to continue its downsizing. The amount of players showing up to spring training is ridiculous and not sustainable financially. I think having 1 or at most 2 minor league affiliates will be happening in our near future. I am speaking from a pure financial standpoint and that typically contradicts the "love for the game" argument but like you said, money will always win. Basketball has the G League but the NBA team can only have the rights to 2 players. Rest of the players are considered free agents even though they're playing for your affiliate team. Not a fan of that model and think it's better if all rights of players on the affiliate team are "owned" by the big league team.
  8. Oh I know but the draft revision was temporary because of COVID. I'm saying the minor league system will get cut even more drastically eventually and the draft will be revised with it permanently.
  9. How are all other sports surviving when most of them involve actual physical contact, which is far worse in regards to age discrepancies. Players who aren't good enough will play in college or other leagues until they're good enough to get drafted/signed. Baseball has far too much access fat and it's just a matter of time before it gets trimmed.
  10. Baseball just has too many players tied to their organizations. Like it's not even close in comparison to other sports. Cut the draft to single digit rounds and have only 1 affiliated minor league team. Flame away lol.
  11. So Paxton could potentially be making only a few million more than Sanchez. Exactly what we all predicted lol.
  12. Are the Red Sox really going to be that much better than the Rays? They lost Snell and Morton but we all know they'll throw out another couple of studs to help fill those shoes.
  13. Problem with Teo is that he's had many lazy moments where he doesn't run down balls. Dude has a great arm but he has to want to be a good fielder. Grichuk clearly has him beat in the field as of now so it would suck to substitute out his bat at the end of games.
  14. That was just a secondary comment. My first response to being good in 2019 and 2020 being a waste doesn't count? Majority of our starting rotation is based on the hope that 2020 was a write-off.
  15. I meant his most recent full season was a good one. 2020 seems to be a writeoff (rightfully so) for many players. If we didnt have 2 fatties ahead of him last year (Vlad/Tellez), I think he would have been intriguing to keep. Not saying he's Edwin or Jose in the making but if we looked at their previous numbers before they started breaking out, we probably wouldn't have cared to keep them either. It doesn't click for everyone at the same time.
  16. Loll give me a few more tries and I'll get it right.
  17. I meant top tier pitcher for the Jays. I probably would have went with Ryu and Walker before Shoemaker but when healthy (huge issue), he is friggin good.
  18. Crazy how the Mets struck out with every free agent and even their plan B's. Wonder what Bradley Jr will end up getting.
  19. Lol you better hope they become valuable or that's lost money. And Vogulbach was an allstar in 2019. I wouldn't judge many players based on last year due to the weird 2020 season.
  20. Oh I totally agree. I was just responding to the person who said we might regret trading Fisher before Grichuk. There's no point in trading Grichuk if we're eating close to half his salary. He's still a good player defensively who can get hot offensively. It's a luxury to have him at the bottom of our order now. Something I don't think we've ever had.
  21. If we could trade Grichuk, I'm pretty sure we would have. No one's taking that contract unless we pay majority of it down so I don't think it was a choice there really. And I haven't really found anything Fisher has done in the Majors impressive but he does have a lot of believers that he will turn it around here.
  22. In order to play RF, you need to be able to catch flyballs lol. Seems like he needs to thrive on become a great hitter first to even be worth getting reps defensively.
  23. I actually find Vobelbach intriguing and wish there was a way we could have kept him. Guess he was too similar to Tellez though.
  24. I thought we were losing him for nothing so this is a pleasant surprise lol.
