32. Ryan Noda, 1B (’20 rank #25)
Age: 24
Highest Level: A+
Noda was a promising power hitter in the low minors early in his career but his numbers continued to decline in 2019. Left off the alternate site roster he may be reaching his peak in this organization. There is still hope though that he will figure it out this season with AA New Hampshire.
Nope lol.
Just don't get the logic if we sign a starter now then that means we can't get a better one, if one becomes available at the deadline. Teams will always need starting pitching so it's not like we can't trade any of our current starters to another team in the worst case scenario.
A lot of "ifs" with our starting rotation. Odorizzi would be the 2nd/3rd best pitcher on the staff so he'd definitely make a difference in a playoff setting, assuming we get there.
But how many teams does the luxury tax even apply to? Whole system is a joke when you compare the wide range of total salary from the Dodgers to the Rays/Marlins.
I doubt Odorizzi makes less than Walker. He probably gets the 3 year deal he's looking for or at a minimum a big 2 year deal.
I have 0 faith at this stage we are going to another big signing. As much as I'd like him, it was a still a great offseason.
I am trying to understand how this contract would differ if the Padres had gone through the normal process of waiting when he was much closer to free agency?
Only thing I can think of is that they won't have to pay him for his potential washed up years. But is that risk worth giving someone this deal after not even playing a full MLB season? A lot of things can happen before he was supposed to hit free agency like a major injury or him just not being as great.
Not saying that but I wasn't sure how guilty he really was since I don't remember much coming out.
If we went by your logic, you'd probably want to fire Masai right when the police officer filed his ******** lawsuit. Luckily we got video of that incident to see how ******** the original claims were. If there was no video or Masai was a broke black dude then imagine how this would have went...
Not saying that is the exact case here with Osuna but I always like to be impartial until actual details are presented to me. The fact Osuna took his suspension without counter suing the MLB tells you there was something wrong done by him. Now whether he was Ray Rice or it was a much less stupid incident is very much up in the air.
Agreed. Guys 28 or so and still trying to be something his body's telling him he can't be. Hope he proves us wrong but seems like the perfect bullpen candidate.
I meant the mainstream media talks like I'll get to use the facility or something. Good for them that they have the relevant stuff to help their players be their best lol.
Always found the topic of the Dunedin facility to be irrelevant but it seems to get discussed in the mainstream media more than normal What the f*** do I care that they're staying in luxury if we're never going to see it. Good for them lol.
Sounds like a very reasonable contract for Walker. If he's good as he last showed, you got a bargain for 3 years. If he sucks, only on the hook for 2 seasons.
Edit- nvm... thought the 3rd year was a team option.
Dear god. 14 years is a lot for anyone regardless of how good he is right now. I'd typically play out the cheap years to build enough of a track record before committing this much unless you're getting a drastic pay cut.
Fair retort. My suggestion to like 1 or 2 minor league affiliations would require a major overhaul to everything done today and seems a bit far fetched.
And yes, I do love baseball and have spent most of my life defending it from everyone I know. I do acknowledge there are some improvements the sport can undertake to attract the younger fanbase and simplifying things can help with that. Maybe it's just my social circle but the sport seems to be diminishing amongst the younger crowd
It's the level that baseball uses developmental leagues in comparison to other professional leagues that makes it stand out. Of course having multiple minor league teams is great to have but it's a major luxury considering majority of the players don't even sniff the big leagues.
I dont understand what makes baseball so special where they need to have this system other than its just how it was. I think it's inevitable for the minor league system to see a major overhaul soon.
The once in a lifetime pandemic will have impacts to all facets of our lives long after its gone. Companies have realized alternative ways of saving money that just won't go away after seeing it can work (e.g. working virtually more if possible).
