Right-hander Jack Flaherty and the Detroit Tigers are in agreement on a two-year, $35 million contract that includes an opt-out after the first season, sources tell ESPN.
If this is true then the Jays could easily get shut out on both sides if their old teams come back to the table. Hope the Jays are able to put more pressure on Boras so we can get at least 1 guy.
People are making up their own arguments. The only thing I've seen is people say the credit should be going to Rogers for spending so much rather than Shatkins.
Personally, I don't give a s*** since we're benefiting as Jays fans either way. It shouldn't be taken that seriously but some folks love defending this front office like it's their family members lol.
Big part of me believes that Shi and BNS purposely put reports out there to help the Jays front office gain some leverage in negotiations. All we heard was how desperate they were and ready to spend their way out of this mess. They've been putting cold water on almost everything to the point I feel it must be deliberate. Who knows lol.
If we land one of Alonso/Bregman, we become true contenders in the AL.
If we land both of them, we become THE favorites in the AL.
That's how much there's riding on this.
I'd be shocked if they spent 15.5M on a 40 year old 4th Starter while neglecting a top 4 of the order bat that they really need. I definitely think they'll find a way to make it happen... let's see
We're literally 1 big bat away from checking off everything I wanted this offseason. We'd be adding Gimenez on top of everything I alfeady thought was too outlandish to do. One of Bregman/Alonso pleeaassseeee
I believe Pete rejected 7/157, which is like 22.5M per season.
He will probably earn more per year from what's being floated around so I wouldn't say it's that big of a screw up tbh.
The difference there was that the Orioles showed 0 interest in bringing him back. The Mets with Alonso and now the Astros with Bregman is what makes People feel like they're both likely to go back.
I would be happy with either just because the Jays become MUCH better in the immediatate short term.
Bregman is the better fit because of his defense at 3B but i'm much more confident in Alonso being good throughout his contract while I expect Bregman to fall off in his last 2 years.
Agreed about the impact, he fits perfectly with the team. However, I wouldn't go near a 7 year deal for him but my job isn't on the line lol.
Jays should just go 4 years to get Alonso than 7 years for Bregman.
