Ya there's a difference between building regular season rosters vs playoff rosters.
Regular season - Complete depth matters to get through the year.
Playoffs - Top 3 Starters, top 3/4 relievers, top 9 batters and their defensive ability.

You just outlined exactly why hes not fine as a closer. Jays should have no closer and just go based on best matchups at the time. Hoffman could use some low leverage innings to build himself back up.
