  1. It sounds like Anthony Rendon will be riding the pine for the next two years. I wonder why they just don't cut him. It's embarrassing. What a bad contract. Also, do you think the Jays should trade for him? He plays 3B :)
  2. And I still think they have one more big move - you're right, it trumps the summer they brought in all the Marlins and Dickey.
  3. Kind of interesting. Scherzer always fit the Jays plans for 2025, but like almost everyone, I thought he would never pick the Jays in a million years. I am sure he had a few suitors for that price, and really, this guys is not hurting for money to begin with so he can choose to be picky, but he picked us. A really nice surprise.
  4. Vladdy signed a $28.5M deal, avoiding arbitration. If the Jays do extend him to a 10-year, 12-year, whatever, would they still have the option to defer some of that 2025 salary, like pay him $5-10M for 2025 instead of the $28.5 and backend that f***er? I mean, that would be an amazing way to free up CBT space, extend Vladdy, etc. Assuming Vladdy would be in agreement, to have a better team around him, would MLB allow this?
  5. I didn't realize how decent Santander's arm is...check this out... He ranks 126 overall, but his fastest throw is over 99 mph, putting him 20th. Huh. This is courtesy https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/leaderboard/arm-strength?type=player&year=2024&minThrows=50&pos=&team=&sortColumn=max_arm_strength&sortDirection=desc
  6. If the Jays extend Vlad (75% chance, IMO), sign Santander and Alonso, does this team have the talent to do something in 2025?
  7. Honestly, if they sign Santander and a couple of other relievers for the bullpen, they should stay around .500 - which excites me because I want to see both Bichette and Vladdy traded at the deadline and start rebuilding this lame team and a ~ .500 record is likely good for last place in the AL East which will force their hand and make changes necessary.
  8. Will the Jays do anything in the new year? Perhaps. Santander? JD Martinez? ...discuss
  9. Yep, 100% agree. What sort of haul would the Jays get for these trades. A couple of blue chips and a few high risk, high reward youngsters? Who arew good fits?
  10. it honestly sounds like the best long term scenario for this franchise is for the team to not do very well, but have unreal seasons from Vlad and Bo, who are then traded at the deadline for a fistful of prospects and controls. I am guessing both hauls individually would be better than the Kikuchi haul - at least I would hope. I guess you could add some other decent expiring contracts to the list.
  11. I am 99% sure Giminez is penciled-in at SS now, or 2026. I wonder what the Jays could get for Bichette?
  12. Holy, now that you've said that he really does. Nice!
  13. That would dwarf the Trout/Ohtani at bat, which I thought was incredible.
  14. The Darvish thing was really hard to swallow. I almost wanted to quit liking baseball at that point. With Ohtani, I thought here we are again...I left work early to go home and follow the frenzy, only to be punched in the gut. Being a fan really sucks sometimes.
  15. I don't know about ironic. I remember being more pumped by the Martin signing, mostly because he is Canadian, but both were meh+ for me. As a contrast, when I found out Fernandez and McGriff were traded, as I was driving on the highway, I pulled over and just sat slack-jawed beside the highway for 10 minutes. When the jays traded for Dickie and all the Miami Marlins I was pretty pumped. Springer and Martin, for me anyway, elicited a "huh" response.
  16. PED suspensions are never awesome, but his was so ill timed. We could all have such a better idea who this guy is at this point. I actually have to remind myself to think of Orelvis.
  17. I actually think the FO will splurge this off-season. Flex its financial might. It wants bums in the seats to to capitalize on all the renovations, and what could be the last year for Vladdy and Bichette.
  18. That Rendon deal is so shockingly bad. I think about it often. I don't think the front office is betting on much out of Springer to be honest. What do you think happens with Bo? I honestly have no idea what to expect or think. At the chagrin of many, I try to extend him. I extend both Vladdy and Bo, and sign a Bregman. Then I hope that a lot of the other mix-and-match players can provide ~ 2 fWAR to plug in all the other gaps. I consider re-signing Jansen and Kikuchi, too. I think that salary could still work, but it's a lot.
  19. I think we all knew the last couple of years of this contract would suck. But, I honestly think his okay arm and offense will still be a good fit in LF. I think he has a good year. Not to mention the "veteran presence" that so many discount. Honestly, if we rebuild the bullpen, extend Vladdy and sign Bregman, we have a fighting chance. How many wins gets a WC spot, 85? I have no idea what happens to Bo.
  20. Wrong. The season was over long ago, this is an assessment situation, not unlike ST. Wins don't matter. In fact, losses actually help the team draft higher. Also, Springer will not retire. I suspect he will report to camp in great shape and then put up a 2.5 fWAR campaign. That's okay. I think he helps the team sign Bregman, which they absolutely should.
  21. It's pitch #10 on his little pitch thingee
  22. I don't get it, he's a FA in 2025 if I read this correctly. What's the point?
