General 2020 Blue Jays Discussion Thread
EastCoaster replied to Bobthe4th's topic in Toronto Blue Jays Talk
Wow Teoscar was up to his regular old self again another crucial error that led to 2 run score on a routine play in the outfield. Dan Shulman said it yesterday that Teoscar Hernandez is not a regular outfielder and it quite evident this guy has been in pro ball for 9 years and still makes stupid rookie mistake regularly. The Astros knew that giving up his bat was the offset for his poor fielding capabilities. Hernanadez is DH at best -

It's not about the wins it's about Guerrero learning how to play his new position with some consistency day in and day out. There's nothing like constant repetitions on plays to earn and feel confident at a position. Vlad Jr is suppose to be the face of the franchise labelled the superstar with all the hype they've given him while they still nurture him at every opportunity time to face the facts and address a few issues first starting with his weight and conditioning superstar don't need to be nurture they face their task head on. You don't see Mike Trout or Mookie Betts DH every second or third day they play their assigned position everyday. If Vlad Jr is the superstar they claim he is the lease they could do is at least threat him like one. -

The Blue Jays need to make some serious decision in this short season if they plan to try and compete for a playoff spot. Time for Montoyo to grow a set of cahoonas before it's too late Teoscar Hernandez need to be the DH again and again he makes these horrible mistake in the field that cost the team dearly. Today was prime example he non chalantly played that fly ball booted it and then miss the cutoff man allowing the run to score. This guy has been up in the league since 2017 still he make the same rookie mistake year after year. He's the Blue Jays top hitter right now but he still manage to hurt the team especially in the late innings. Guerrero is suppose to be the first baseman well let him play there and put Teoscar DH and let someone with better defensive skills play the outfield and who can be counted on to make the routine plays. -
Fire Charlie Montoyo - The thread worked guys!
EastCoaster replied to TwistedLogic's topic in Toronto Blue Jays Talk
The fact is there's nothing to protest the rule was adapted that all players must listed on the line up card and confirmed prior to game start. The same as double headers are only 7 innings long the rules book says all game are to be 9 innings it's something all the teams agreed to so 7 inning it is. The same with the National League which doesn't use the DH rule but this year they adapted the DH rule for both leagues and all teams agreed. The same with all players who participate in a game must be listed on the line up card and confirm prior to game start. Umpires knows the rule changes and so should all the teams. -

No you're wrong because the MLB has adapted that rule that all players and substitutes must be listed on the line up cards. This was again explained on Sportsnet yesterday why Waguespack wasn't allowed in the game and they said it was because the copy of the line up card the umpires had didn't have his name on it. -

I don't know what scrub baseball would follow that substitute rules because it's moot nobody adhere by it. Mostly all league follow substitute must listed on the line up the fact are proof Waguespack wasn't allowed in the game simply because he wasn't on the line up card. I think MLB umpires should know the rules especially one as simple as the use of a substitute player in a game. Now in the lower level of baseball there's a re entry rule where you can substitute one player and have him re enter the game one time only how do you expect everyone to keep track of which players enter and leave the game without have their names and numbers on a line up card. There's a reason on every printable line up card that's available it has a column especially for substitute players. -

Charlie Montoyo is undoubtedly a real nice guy and very likable by all people but he's far from a stellar major league manager. Hernadez is the Blue Jays hottest hitter right now that's the guy who should be penciled first in the lineup card regardless of the splits you've always got to go with the hot bat. Another thing that irks me is these players moving around you've got your starters at each position play them there. Vlad Guerrero Jr is suppose to be the regular first baseman evolving at a new position leave him there to learn and gain confidence never mind having him DH every 3rd game. Really how dumb can you look inserting a player not on a lineup card especially in a MLB game. Heck every minor league baseball coaches in Canada knows that for a fact you got your regular 9 players then your substitutes anybody not on that list cannot play in the game it's that simple. -

No it shows how some coaches are much better of identifying underlying problems with players and turn them into real good players. -

No that's not what happened he was first signed by Shapiro and Atkins back 2008 in the Cleveland Indians organization an international free agent the traded for him for cash he came to the Blue jays played in 19 games 43 AB and they traded him to the Yankees for $25,000 because the injury plague season they had and Andujar was injured. Upon arrival to the Bronx he worked with the hitting coach changed his stance at the rest is history. It turned out he became a better player at 3rd base than Andujar and they moved him to the outfield with Gio at 3rd base. Urshela was never given a chance as he played very sparingly in Cleveland and Toronto only when he went to New York was given an opportunity to play regularly and with the help of hitting coach became one of best 3rd baseman in the league. -

One has to wonder who in charge of the Blue Jays players talent recognition. It just beyond me that they gave up on Gio Urshela and gave him to the Yankees for $25,000.00 and last season and this year he has been one of the most productive 3rd baseman in baseball defensively and productively. He played so good that the Yankee had to move their regular 3rd baseman Miguel Andujar to the outfield because Urshela is a better player at the position. Time for the front office to recognize talent where is at an never mind the name on the back of sweater this is just an example on how stupid it make them look as baseball executive. -

No worries Shaw signed a one year guaranteed deal to be an everyday player with the Blue Jays. The only difference he's now going to be playing 3rd base instead of first. -

There's also guy who has options that can be cut without repercussion right now would be very risky to cut anybody without options as they will likely be sign to teams that are facing covid 19 shortage. Who knows in few week it could be the Jays that's hit with an outbreak and they'd be glad to have some those guys around. Just look at the Marlins that what they had to do in order to field a somewhat competitive team. Right now I would dare say anybody released on waiver are gone to another organization because of the situation that this pandemic is causing nobody knows who's next. -
Covid 19 starting to spread through out the MLB
EastCoaster posted a topic in Toronto Blue Jays Talk
Look like the corona virus is starting to spread among teams in the MLB. Today 2 St-Louis Cardinals test positive game cancelled. The Phillies staffers tested positive series with the Jays cancelled The Florida Marlins now has 20 members who has tested positive for the virus. Already look like this shorten season could very well be in jeopardy. -
Florida Marlins Suspended Mid-Covid 19
EastCoaster replied to EastCoaster's topic in Toronto Blue Jays Talk
That's the problem there's no rules once out the ballpark each player can do whatever he pleases go to bars restaurants strip clubs. They all go their separate ways the don't stick together in one place like they should. -
The Florida Marlins season has been suspended mid- covid 19 apparently 14 players and some coaches has test positive. One team down which one will be the next team it's going to happen guaranteed it's inevitable you can't have open travel within the epicenter of the pandemic without consequences. David Price criticized the MLB for not taking the players health seriously in consideration he said the MLB covid 19 protocol measures are inadequate as they allow open travel and no isolation. Now with this outbreak Price said we'll see how serious the MLB is about it's players health and that's why he chose to sit out the season.

This season won't be played out MLB annouced today that is was cancelling 2 games due covid 19 outbreak.

Tellez really is a non issue at this point anymore they gave the job to Guerrero and Rowdy isn't going to split the DH position with just Vlad Jr there's other players that will get some reps as the DH when needed so his PA will likely be down significantly from last season. I can't see where a 227 avg and 293 OBP bat can really change the course of what's decision making that's been happening with the first base or the DH position. The opportunities are fading fast with the talented youngsters that could be coming up in next few years.

Right from day one there wasn't any doubts in any scouts mind on what position they envisioned best suited for Vladdy playing in the MLB. Since his real true value is with his hitting and not his defense there was no logic on having a sub par 3rd baseman on the field while there's potential that he could become an all star first baseman. I believed that last year for Guerrero was an experiment to give him a chance to prove that he could handle the position but it soon realized that it wasn't ideally suited for him. This move should've been done sometime last year when they had a guy like Smoak that could of mentored him during the second half of the season. This probably spell an end to Rowdy Tellez ever having a starting role on this team the team will have to decide if they want to keep him and occupy a spot on the roster or give it to a multi role player that could help this team in different ways.

MLB Suspends Operations, Starting This Afternoon

Mask where in the hell would they get them while there's a shortage for medical staff at many hospitals I'm sure the MLB wouldn't be a priority for getting supplies. No revenues for the owners as the stadium would be empty under the large gathering rules implemented by the governments. This season baseball is done whether they like it or not. -

You can pretty much write off the 2020 baseball season right now it's inevitable with what been happening now and especially in the US where is world's hot bed of the pandemic. The predictions for the US death toll is between 100,000 to 200,000 nobody will feel safe anymore going anywhere not before a vaccine is develop sometime next year. Yesterday 6.6 mil Americans filed for unemployment the world economy is going to get hit hard with many uncertainties for many people. -
If MLB decide to cancel the entire 2020 season which is most likely with the epicenter of the pandemic now being the US which just now starting to ramp up to epic proportions in cases and deaths. Players service time will also be rescinded for time lost so he just plays in L A for 2021 season.

MLB Suspends Operations, Starting This Afternoon

This was to be expected and surely could put the whole season in jeopardy now with ST shut down. Then one would think before any team would be ready to play they would need to ramp up the players back to game shape which could take a while. Right now spring training is 37 days long now it's shut down if the stoppage last for two or 3 months then try to restart ST then the season you could look at late July or August before they are ready to play the first ballgame. Now the first case of Covid 19 was reported in China on Dec 31 2019 we are in March that's almost 3 month to try contain this virus we are just now seeing some case here take 3 months off any baseball season. I'd have to say right it doesn't look good for baseball this season -
What are the chances that the MLB will follow suit like the NBA and suspend the 2020 season over Covid -19 epidemic. Some places in the US has already have measures in place to stop large gathering of people as the predictions of health experts claims it will get much worst before it gets better the safety of their players has to come to mind.

Anthony Alford will bring a lot versatility to this team it gives Montoyo a lot of options in way to use his talent good defense, incredible speed and a good arm. Plus with athleticism one would believe he will hit a this level. Now with the signing of Shaw for 1st base pretty much make Tellez out of the bubble for this 26 man roster.
