  1. I think maybe Org was referring to the power/speed/eye combo of raw tools for Fisher, whereas Stevenson just has speed/eye. I could actually see Stevenson having a higher ceiling if his defense is a lot better than Fisher though. Like, Kiermaier elite or smth.
  2. I wanted to defend you Ross, but then you go and throw away Cal Stevenson. Please, just stop taking calls. Don't talk to other GMs.
  3. Derek Fisher didn't fare great during his time in MLB this season, but his avg exit velocity was 94.8, which is crazy, and his xWOBA was .344. Also, if you want to know if the power's legit: link to absolute bomb
  4. Along with most other teams, probably. Positive change of scenery changes happen all the time, even to the Blue Jays (Estrada, Happ) sometimes. I wouldn't call Blue Jays player development spectacular, but they're not the Orioles, at least. If anything I do hope the Astros fix Aaron Sanchez somehow, because it would hopefully get the front office to investigate how they could improve their analytics and player development.
  5. What would we be concerned about? Being the Pirates?
  6. People are going to whine about selling low on Sanchez and him pitching better with the Astros afterwards, but the fact is the Blue Jays never figured out how to make him pitch decently and probably wouldn't have been able to do so, unlike the Astros who seem to make every pitcher better.
  7. Looks like he has a 27% K-rate in July. Still bad, but at least much better than earlier in the season.
  8. Galvis DH is...something. The guy has a .278 xWOBA. Shouldn't be getting at bats when you can give them to the young players.
  9. a) It would be better to give us examples of players who sucked in the minors and then tore it up in the majors. Of course prospects fail to adapt to major league pitching all the time. Jonathan Davis hasn't had much chance to prove himself at MLB level. That doesn't mean he will eventually produce, I have my doubts, but...he's not yet Brandon Wood.
  10. if they 'almost always' broke, MLB teams should be sued for intentionally causing harm to their pitchers. I think A-ball (and SWR is on his way to A+) is where you start caring about pitching prospects. Some of them can move ridiculously quickly, too.
  11. Sure, sure, but I'd feel a lot better about a prospect if he'd show some results. And the scouting reports on Trammell's defense aren't exactly glowing. Remember Anthony Gose? He had a 114 WRC+ in double-A when he was younger than Trammell, and with better reports on defense. Still didn't make it.
  12. Taylor Trammell WRC+: 107 Kevin Smith: 103 Josh Palacios: 135 Forrest Wall: 133 I'd say no thanks to that 'headliner'.
  13. Yes, quite amazing numbers. Your post inspired me to do my own comparison (sorry for stealing your idea). Player A in A-ball at 19 years old 9.3% Ks .228 ISO 155 WRC+ Player B in A-ball at 18 years old 7.4% Ks .189 ISO 153 WRC+ Player C in A-ball at 18 years old 10.7% Ks .164 ISO 151 WRC+ Player D in A-ball at 19 years old 20.3% Ks .204 ISO 162 WRC+ Player D was a consensus top 10 prospect, player B and C top prospect in all of MLB (Wander and Vlad). Player A is our Gabriel Moreno. His elite contact rate combined with power has recently only been found in elite prospects like Wander, Vlad and Juan Soto. Moreno's probably not as good as those guys, sure, but it's one heck of a company to be keeping.
  14. Keith Law is giving the people striving for equality a bad name with this kind of behaviour. I do find that official's quote quite condescending towards Stroman, if that is literally what was said. (which doesn't mean it's racist)
  15. Down? I didn't know he was 'up' to 0.1 yet.
  16. Kloff had 5 scoreless innings yesterday, 4 walks and 7 strikeouts. Command could be better, but high groundball rate and low amount of hits against is very encouraging. Hiraldo went 3-for-5 with a double and a walk. Half (four) of his walks have come in his last 6 games (32 played overall), now hitting .305/.359/.481. Cal Stevenson had a monster day and is now hitting .302/.393/.399 for a 141 WRC+. Kevin Pillar had a 110 WRC+ in Dunedin in 2012. Pillar's highest WRC+ in the minors was 141 in Bluefield, where Stevenson had a 173 WRC+. Let's hope that Stevenson, whenever he's promoted, will be up to the tough challenge of hitting in New Hampshire.
  17. There's a Subway three minutes walking distance from my house, but I still wouldn't eat there much even if it was free (I'm a snob, I guess). Firehouse, I'd never heard of. Probably hasn't made its way across the Atlantic yet.
  18. I liked Nick's cautious optimism, though I can see why Alan (and others) would be disappointed with Atkins seemingly not getting his money's worth in trades. It's hard to be satisfied after what Anthopoulos managed to pull off sometimes. What I think is that maybe the Jays' scouting department identified SWR as one of the most underrated prospects in baseball, a guy who would have made it to 'untouchable' status next year, one that probably has higher raw upside than the likes of Deivi Garcia. 'He's still in A-ball' is almost the only knock against him, and while it is relevant, it's a chance to pick up an elite arm with far less uncertainty than a HS/JC draft arm or even a rookie ball lottery ticket. I think there may just be some scouts who were like 'forget whatever the Yankees are peddling, Ross, you gotta get this SWR dude if the Mets are willing.' That, and the Twins were probably loathe to give up Graterol. The fans are like 'two guys who aren't in even in the consensus top 100s, this is nonsense!', while the Jays are like 'yeah but they're both in OUR top 50'. Maybe.
  19. With the exception of Lyles (Miller and Knapp could've been great if not for injuries) that's a pretty good track record.
  20. Imo SWR should be top 5.
  21. Well it's a bit like if your GM gave up Syndergaard for a starting pitcher with just one more season of control, and you weren't even that sure about being able to contend during that time period.
  22. My theory is their scouting dept was drooling over a possible Pearson-Richardson 1-2, I'd probably be the same. Kay seems to me like a 'spin rate over results' guy, which I would hate. Extremely low groundball rate seems to be not playing so well for him with the 'juiced' balls in triple-A. Woods-Richardson, though, was on Fangraphs' expected to make 2020 top 100 list of teenage pitchers alongside... Pardinho and Kloffenstein. I hope they move quickly through the system next year.
  23. Woods Richardson has some seriously sexy strikeout, walk and even groundball numbers. But that's in A-ball, and Kay has been a human launching pad in AAA. I guess we should be happy it's not the Yankees.
  24. Looks like my compatriots Robberse and Casimiri made their debuts today, in the GCL. Robberse pitched 2 innings with 3 Ks and Casimiri 1 2/3 innings with 1 K and neither of them allowed any baserunners.
