  1. Yeah and to be fair _ I hope all the best for Derek Fisher (I have reasons beyond just being a fan of the Jays: 1st - my oldest son is named Derek, 2nd - I am also follically changed as is young Mr Fisher). OK Derek - shake this off and go get em !!!!
  2. His name is Atkins - not Shatkins -apparently Shapiro has no say in these personnel moves
  3. in a matter of less that 5 posts we have 2 people taking the Lord's name in vain. show some decency, you idiots !!
  4. so you think Atkins is good at his job?
  5. I am not sure who to laugh at more here: Fisher or that shmuck Atkins (what a loser)
  6. It is "vetrin presenz"
  7. There is an 'intangible' factor that you can't account for in the calculations - as you also suggest. Ultimately, it only matters what a guy does in the SHOW. Tellez hits the ball so hard and reminds me so much of Ortiz - I have a soft spot for the young man. Hopefully, the Jays are not to Rowdy as the Twins were to Big Papi (yes that's a long shot but not impossible).
  8. Other than getting pushed around by Marcus Napoleon Stroman and looking like a f***ing hipster dweeb, I am not so sure that Atkins is the pushover that some are perceiving. BUT he seems to me to be a bit of a dunce and I do not think is capable of the GM role on an MLB team. He needs to be demoted to some back room job and let a more adept baseball guy take the GM reins. I still think just go with Cherington at this point.
  9. so Tellez has a line in 18 games at Buffalo of .323/.427/.645 (1.072 OPS). Is he still part of the discussion ?
  10. yeah it matters to the business - the more years with low attendance and TV viewership and corresponding low revenue/value added, the more the corporate suits will say the team can not justify payroll increases. The question is can you start winning again with very low payroll instead of spending money (up front on FAs/veterans) to make money and win. More and more , it seems Rogers has learned nothing and this team needs new ownership who is both shrewd and WANTS to WIN (like Labatts back in the day).
  11. considering the mediocre prospects they received along with a likely AAAA player in Fisher, it makes me wonder why they even bothered. Then again, I will be happy to eat my words if Fisher turns into a monster and/or any of these pitchers pan out. But you could argue that would just be Atkins finally getting lucky or making like a stopped clock.
  12. But at least they would actually need to pay for the rights to the game broadcasts. Any info on how the ratings/viewership for the games are going this year? I know they were huge in late 2015 and 2016. I would assume pretty low by comparison this year.
  13. So we can look forward to another 60-70 win season in 2020 ? Oh that should do wonders for the level of support from the fickle bandwagon Toronto fanbase and country-wide TV viewership. Rogers is mis-managing this thing into the ground.
  14. so we can expect more signings like Shoemaker, Bucholz and Richard, or are these f***ers going to actually try to get someone good for once?
  15. I'm not sure why I didn't vote on this poll when it came out. The question is "If the team isn't contending by year X". However, my understanding is that Shapiro's 5 year contract ends after the 2020 season, and his boy Atkins got a 1 year extension through 2020. So, the big decision on these guys seems to be coming after 2020, unless both can be extended for 1 more year. In that light, I vote that unless the team is STRONGLY trending up in 2020, pull the plug on these guys. That means they need to do some heavy lifting to get the pitching staff up to some semblance of respectability (from the current wasteland) and get this team looking like they on a path to succeed in 2021 and beyond, Otherwise, I would cut both of them.
  16. Thanks for the chuckle on this otherwise dreary / disappointing day for Jays fans (they couldn't even lose the game to KC to help the tanking! J/K)
  17. To be fair, at least he is going to a serious WS contender, not an also ran team. Even if they stick him in the BP, he will get a chance at that golden ring.
  18. So try to bring in someone from the Rays ? We see how that went with Montoyo (not all their guys are smart). Anyone else come to mind?
  19. Is Ben Cherington still on staff as VP of baseball operations? Would it make sense to give him a shot at filling the GM role?
  20. From some of his trades, it seems more like he is hoarding AAAA players with the hope 1 or 2 of them breaks out and become the next Bautista. Sanchez wasn't much but at least he was one SP the Jays had with some track record. With Borucki back to the DL along with a bunch of others. thety literally have nothing right now. And gutting the bullpen doesn't help when you already have no established starters - could be a pretty rough final 2 months of the season for Charlie and Co.
  21. Yeah, Fangraphs has him with an xFIP of 5.62 !! for today's game. I guess we can't say for sure if he just got lucky or deserves credit for getting out of situations with men on base. Only time (and outings against better teams) will tell if he is going to be any good. Seems he will get the chance at least for the remainder of 2019 season
  22. Yes but the question is whether he is good enough to be CFer on a contender - I guess the big factor will be if he brings a big bat to the table.
  23. what is your bottom line on Stroman? I am thinking 5/$100M, starting in 2020. If they get 9-10 WAR out of him, it is at least worth the cost.
  24. True, but as with hoping to sign free agents of your choice, easier said than done.
