  1. I'm a big Ross fan too. But where would you gonna put him?
  2. Ohhh. And funnily enough, I actually just finished Dickeys book. It was surprisingly pretty great. Gained a lot of respect for him as a player. I'd recommend that one as well. Cheers
  3. I'd recommend reading Doug Glanvilles book: The Game from Where I Stand: From Batting Practice to the Clubhouse to the Best Breakfast on the Road, an Inside View of a Ballplayer's Life. Really a must-read for any hardcore baseball fan. Enduring, entertaining and informative I bought Lenny Dykstras book during the summer and thoroughly enjoyed it, I think you might like that too. Though it is an autobiography, and not strictly about baseball. Still, the baseball anecdotes are super entertaining.
  4. Of course, but they're much better now and the young guys are further along. Spells more losses for the Jays
  5. That's precisely the point. If they can acquire someone like Granderson or Puig I'd be happy but I just don't see a deal like that coming from this regime.
  6. Which is worrisome in it's own right. He's never had more than 383 plate appearances in the big-leagues. He's only had 1 good season, which he followed up by posting 0.4 WAR the following year (so much for taking a step forward). He's a good guy to bet on if you're a middling team, but the Jays should be past that at this point. A powerhouse like the Jays should have a masher manning 1B. Not Smoak and Pearce. I hope the gamble pays off and that he's a valuable piece, It's just a little odd that they'd be gambling when the team has proven in continuous years that they're a championship caliber team.
  7. It's also worth noting that the Sox and even the Yankees will be significantly better.
  8. I've gotta be honest, I'm a little surprised by the route that Shapiro's taken this off-season. The Jays have found themselves in back to back ALCS's and most would fathom that they'd try to put the final pieces of the puzzle in place but thus-far it's looking like they're taking 2 steps back. I'm optimistic that Morales can fare well in this division but I feel like they could have signed him for a lot less. Perhaps it's just the price that comes with getting a free-agent to play in Toronto but it still stings. Pearce is fine as a bench piece. That still leaves us with gaping holes in both corner OF positions, 1B, back-up C and the bullpen... Not to mention that the general lack of depth is concerning. A lot of key-pieces left and the markets growing smaller by the day. Is this Shapiro's coy way of initiating a total rebuild? I'd figure with the money that's come off the books that they could do both but their hand in the free-agent market this offseasons been pretty terrible.
  9. Definitely the guy with the Ace avatar. Usernames slipping my mind... It's something like jaysfan2014 or something. The guys opinion makes my eyes bleed
  10. Jose Bautistas the bomb. Definitely the best offensive Jay that I've seen in adulthood. With that said, his last year with all the injuries and age raises some serious red flags. It's a shame, but I think his best years are behind him. If we can get him at a reasonable price and tenure I'd be all for it but I think the money could be allocated in a more useful manner. With that said, I'd rather overpay a bit for Bautista then having some scrap heap guy fill his place.
  11. Excellent point on Morales! I hadn't considered that but guys like Tulo, Martin and JD are definitely gonna need some time off in the DH role.
  12. I'm definitely not impressed with the moves that have been made this off-season. The team was just in the AL finals, no need to orchestrate a step back now. They overpaid for Morales and rolling the dice hoping that an inconsistent fringe guy like Pearce can replace some massive bats is not a winning a strategy. Still time to acquire some impact players, but that really doesn't seem to be Shapiros M.O. I'm beginning to miss Anthopolous.
  13. I think 2017's gonna be a step back for the boys unless Shapiro adds a couple other major pieces. I'm not sold on Pillar (fine as a defensive only player but it puts pressure on the rest of the offense to be stronger) and who else is supposed to fill out the outfield? Upton? Seriously?
  14. Total bummer. I'm optimistic about Moraeles and his chances in these band-box parks but I'm really failing to understand all of the excitement over Steve Pearce? I mean, there's room for hope there and he'll add some pop off of the bench but he's hardly ever gonna be the kind of impact player that EE is.
  15. Definitely one of the best Jays in the "modern" era. Helluva player and somewhat underrated due to the team being crap when he was at his peak
  16. Yeah, I was taken aback that they didn't add any pop at the deadline. I don't think Upton and Navarro really cut the mustard.
  17. The Jays are pretty much screwed anytime they face a right-hander with good breaking stuff. I think Shapiro's partly to blame for not adding some left-handed pop to the lineup. The Jays have to have one of the least balanced starting lineups in the league.
  18. Definitely agree. But the Jays are all about going for the long-ball. Very feast or famine type of club.
  19. I kind of agree. The problem is that the Jays just try waiting him out and then flail away hopelessly with 2 strikes. You gotta look for a pitch in the zone and let it rip. These guys just seem to be in between without a real game plan. At some point the management has to take some of the blame.
  20. It's like these guys never swing unless there's 2 strikes
  21. This is getting infuriating. Getting shut out by Kluber and Miller is one thing, but Tomlins really not that good. This lineup just doesn't look good enough. Barney, Pillar and Carrera are pretty much dead weight and Bautista and Martin are ice cold. The only guys I have any sorta faith to get something going are JD, EE and Tulo.
  22. I hate to say it's a must win game, but going down 2-0 would be atrocious. We're only down 1 but I'm a frankly a little nervous. I don't like the rate at which these guys are striking out and rolling over the ball.
