  1. Shapiro had some income to work with and didn't utilize it to improve the pen. I don't see how this is on Rogers.
  2. Cecils bread and butter is his breaking pitch and if he can't throw it for a strike he isn't going to fool anyone.
  3. Best NES baseball game is Baseball Stars http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e23/missnovember79/old%20school%20video%20games/Nintendo_Baseball_Stars2.jpg It was one of the first games where you could name your players, have seasons and do things like dive for the ball, climb the fence to steal a homerun. Gameplay was miles ahead of other games too
  4. I'm impressed by the guys natural ability. I like what I've seen, but you have to remember that he hasn't pitched a full season in the league. Often times minor-leaguers will come up and look super impressive until the 2nd or 3rd time they face a cast of guys. I won't come to conclusions this early in a season, but if you do look at Stromans stats for the season they're actually pretty average.
  5. I really like Stroman. Fun guy to watch on the mound. I do admit that I believe he's been overrated by the media. I just don't see him having ace stuff like he's portrayed to have. Sanchez is the guy I'm really expecting big things from.
  6. When I think of baseball as a whole I don't see it as being as much of a team-game like Basketball, Soccer, Football or hockey. The beauty in baseball is the continuing one on one battles between the pitcher and batter. Of course defense matters, and it takes a team effort for everyone to produce. It's a hard thing to articulate and perhaps I should try before drinking several daiquiri's, but I'm just killing a little time before I head out.
  7. On the topic of on air guys: How nice is it to have Dan Schulman in the booth? Guys one of the best. Great hearing him weekly on Prime Time Sports too.
  8. I think I do remember. He did a few games right before or after Matt Devlin last year right?
  9. I do recall reading rumors that there was talk of Jeff Locke (starter for the Pirates) throwing games one season. Haven't really looked into it but his stats show he was a Jekyll and Hyde kinda arm.
  10. What's great about baseball is that it's far less of a team game than any of the other major sports. You hear of all these fixing scandals in the NBA, Soccer, Tennis ETC but you figure it'd be tremendously hard to fix a baseball game because everyones playing for their own numbers and if they're a pitcher and purposely suck to lose a game they won't be around the league long.
  11. He looks vaguely familiar. Was he one of the guys who did the CBC morning games?
  12. As much as people bash Sportnet: It's nice that we get every single game broadcasted. I remember when the games were on TSN and CBC and there was always a pretty significant handful of games that wouldn't be aired... I'd guess about 20-30.
  13. Rob Faulds? I'm not too sure. It seemed like for years that every different season had countless guys calling games so I lose track of who's who. I've read a lot of complaints about Buck and Tabler online but I think it's good that they at least have a consistent pair of decent guys now.
  14. Have you guys ever got that feeling where you cringe in embarrassment simply due to witnessing someone else make a huge ass out of themselves? I had that feeling watching the Jamie Cambell Spotsnet360 interview. Guys an awful actor.
  15. Great win by the boys against a solid pitcher. Hopefully Donaldson started a fire beneath em all. Also great to see Ryan Goins put a charge into one. If he can even hit at a little below league average he'd be a nice asset. My buddy absolutely hates Goins, he calls him "Ryan Groins" so I'm gonna have to razz him big-time tonight:cool:
  16. Saunders! Just think guys: If it wasn't for the Angels we'd have Jay Bruce manning left field. iye yi yi
  17. Me neither. A little surprised that Shapiro couldn't get more for Revere
  18. Nice to see Sanchez bounce back. Let's pray that the bullpen doesn't come in and lose it for our guys again.
  19. I realize he was being sarcastic. I'm simply suggesting that if AA were still in charge he likely wouldn't have taken the stand-pat approach that Shapiro took. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if he pulled some shocking blockbuster and shipped either Bautista or Encarnacion outta town. The guy did trade poster-boy Brett Lawrie after all.
  20. That's too bad. I was grade-A excited when I heard Troy Tulowitzki was becoming a Blue Jay. Just thinking about a Donaldson/Bautista/Encarnacion/Tulowitzki lineup had me giddy as a little child at Christmas. But I tell ya, I have not been impressed. Not one bit. I suppose the Rockies wouldn't have had any intention of shipping their face of the franchise star player outta town unless they knew something was majorly wrong with him.
  21. To Anthopolouses credit: He always did the unexpected. I think there was only 1 season where he didn't really do much in the off-season. Sometimes it was great, sometimes hindsight kicks ya in the butt but I honestly believe that if AA was still calling the shots that he would have taken a more proactive approach than Shapiro. I have to admit that I was a little surprised that the team didn't do more to build off of the success of the 2015 season.
  22. I don't get a chance to watch quite as many National League games as I'd like, but how much of Tulo's success do you guys think was as a result of playing in Coors Field? Countless power guys who were having down years play there and are instantly revitalized. I realize age and injuries play a major factor, but I don't hear many local analysts mention the Coors Field advantage.
  23. Thanks Do you guys have any concern with the lackluster start to the season? I think there's too many big-bats in the lineup for these guys to continue to struggle like they are. Of course on the other hand the health of Martin is crucial and I think you need more offensive production at first-base in this division than players like Smoak and Domingues, so I'm not quite as confident in the lineup as I was during the excitement of last year. Oh, another thing: Do you guys know when Devon Travis is slated to return? Goins isn't doing the offense any favors. Sorry if it's already been discussed somewhere here.
  24. Love Josh Donaldson, helluva player; but I don't really see how this can be productive in any way. It's not as if these are the types of players who are struggling due to a lack of effort. Guys like Martin and Tulo wanna produce as much as anyone in the league. Great forum BTW Long time Jays fan here, looking forward to reading through all of the topics.
