  1. Bloss has been very impressive his last few times out. He was sitting at 96 with the heater today and touched as high as 98 MPH. How earlier issues were primarily command related and that's been much better in recent outings.
  2. Yeah this one is tough.
  3. I'm not positive but I'm thinking that looks like George Bell.
  4. I thought based on the limited viewings of Nimmala this spring that he has displayed a very strong arm at the short stop position.
  5. This is just an example of a simple mind that is only capable of thinking in absolutes. Therefore there is the need to assign 100% of the blame for a very complicated scenario on team management, and none of the blame on the player despite the multitude of question marks and inconsistency surrounding this player. Not to mention the astronomical asking price that would pay the player among the elites of the sport despite this player only being a top 10 level of player in the sport at best.
  6. I fully agree this feels way too damn close to not ultimately get a deal done. I recall rumors stated that Vlad wasn't willing to accept any deferrals which is just incredibly short sighted on his part. He still gets full value eventually and that leaves extra room to build a competitive team around him, it feels like it's nothing more than greed for him to insist to be paid that type of money at present day value only.
  7. I semi-jokingly requested that one earlier.
  8. I looked up Joe Kelly and he mentioned back in January that he wanted to sign with the Dodgers only or he would retire. He also mentioned at that point he wasn't fully recovered from a shoulder injury so he doesn't appear to be a realistic target. I have no idea why Robertson is still lingering in free agency though unless he's being too picky for destination and/or asking for far too much money. It feels like pitchers that sign this late more often than not have terrible seasons so hopefully the Jays can sign him up sooner rather than later.
  9. It would certainly be nice to be able to stash Pop away in Buffalo but he's out of options. I suspect there's only one spot available between Pop and Nance, personally I think Nance offers more realistic upside of the two but neither one would be a huge loss if they were snagged on waivers.
  10. I believe there's a pretty decent chance that Straw makes the opening day roster over Loperfido.
  11. That's infinitely less concerning than forearm/elbow/shoulder soreness.
  12. Yeah I suspect that falls in the general area. He ran a 181 wRC+ over the last 5 months that corresponded to a 6.9 win pace if prorated over an entire season.
  13. I thought the reaction time looked good so far. The arm strength is obviously lacking but he's been pretty on target with his throws so far.
  14. Oh s*** Erik Swanson's been sent to see Dr. Keithmeister. The team just signed Dillon Tate, please don't tell me that means they are out of contention for David Robertson.
  15. I think it's a tad early to hand Roden a spot coming out of Spring Training. I'd prefer that the team makes him prove that he can keep producing top notch offensive contributions right until the end of the spring. I've been impressed with the total package he presents at the defense and baserunning have both been very solid as well.
  16. The slow page loading issue has been fixed on both desktop and mobile. Thank goodness as the load times were pretty painful for the last while.
  17. Yeah a Robertson signing is a no brainer at this point as Swanson has already suffered from forearm and elbow issues a few weeks into spring training.
  18. That's an awfully tall ask for a teenager that ran a 30% K rate in low A ball. I don't know how much of that is due to pitch recognition vs hand/eye coordination, but his ultimate ceiling will depend of making the necessary improvements to bring this under control.
  19. That seems a little optimistic unless you think he's the second coming of Arod.
  20. If Varsho can throw without issue I wouldn't be particularly interested in playing him at DH. It's just a massive waste to park one of MLB's best defenders on the bench. This would force a lesser player into duty in the outfield, and would reduce the flexibility of the DH spot as well as reducing potential playing time for bat first players like Wagner, Orelvis etc.
  21. I'll have to disagree pretty strongly with that assessment. I can get on board with utilizing underlying numbers to evaluate what *should* have happened on the field and the likelihood of success or failure on an individual basis, but the actual on the field results and associated statistics are the primary driver towards wins and losses.
  22. I did a little reading on the subject, and it does appear that there are a few spring training statistics that carry some value. Prospects Live suggested that maximum exit velocity for hitters is useful and that pitch characteristics (pitch velocity, spin rate, break etc.) are useful for pitchers. https://www.prospectslive.com/which-spring-training-stats-matter/#:~:text=Conclusion,you can't enjoy them.&text=Please check your inbox and click the confirmation link.,-Read Next There is a study posted on the economist that argues that spring training stats do have utility despite their inherent noisiness. This appears to be the study that shows that walk and strikeout rates are useful, as is isolated power numbers. Unfortunately it's locked behind a paywall so I wasn't able to read through the entire study vs perusing a summary on ESPN.com. https://www.espn.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/77800/which-spring-training-stats-actually-matter
