  1. I'd love Edwin for that kind of money, he is one of the few guys I think would be worth bringing aboard for his mentoring ability on top of the quality bat. I shudder to think back to the veteran presence garbage waste of roster spots prior Jays teams had employed. Guys like Mark Derosa and Omar Vizquel, guys who were too old and broken down to add any actual value on the field. But with Edwin it would be different, he shares so many similarities with Vladdy Jr. it's crazy. Poor defensive 3rd baseman, eventually had to move to 1st base/DH, high walk rate/low k rate etc. etc. Having Edwin around to mentor the latin players (Teoscar, Gurriel, Vladdy Jr.) as well as the rest of the youngsters would be huge.
  2. I think I would have been seriously torn if the Jays managed to land Strasburg for the type of contract he signed for. The pure fan in me would have been giddy like a school girl at a Bieber concert, but the more analytical portion of my psyche would have been cowering in the corner at the amount of pure risk in this contract. At least with Ryu the Jays are getting ace-like ability at a discount, $20 million for what he can possibly provide is pretty damn reasonable. But Strasburg at $35 million a season until he is 37 is super unlikely to age well, the guy has only averaged like 157 innings per season over the last 5 years.
  3. While I think reports like this need to be taken with a massive grain of salt, if true it's kind of a big deal as it signals the ability and desire for the front office to shop in the premium aisle at the free agency supermarket. It's been a lot of years since the Jays were interested or able to try to bring in the truly top of the market players such as Cole. For all of the s*** the front office takes for touting the payroll flexibility they have worked towards achieving, the core of pre-arb players they have built is so damn cheap it allows them to take on massive salaries under the available payroll budget. I dream that the Jays may be serious suitors for Mookie Betts next offseason, an in his prime MVP caliber outfielder is exactly what this team needs given the s***** MLB outfield and lack of good outfield prospects in the sytem.
  4. I'd say it screams professional eating contest winner. The chick is hot though so it's easy to ignore the big bastard in the center of the photo.
  5. Who's this "handsome" fellow? If he didn't have the teeny beard on his chin it appears he would actually be missing having a chin, fascinating photo there.
  6. It's totally insane that this deal went through as structured even though Johnson failed his physical. Like why even bother doing the f***ing physical in the first place if you are going to turn a blind eye to the results? I had no real problem with this trade at the time with the information we had available back then, if it worked out the Jays would have vaulted into contention. But the idea that Thor was potentially included is infuriating.
