  1. Please can we send Drury and McKinney back to them for Happ?
  2. Based solely on last year? No. But outside of Anderson and Shoemaker everyone else is basically a rookie. Hopefully this season we get at least 2 or 3 starters and 2 or 3 relievers from Merryweather, Kay, Borucki, Thornton, Pearson, Reid-Foley, Waguespack, Zeuch, Perez, and Hatch. That’d make a big difference.
  3. FTFY. If the season started tomorrow our rotation could be Anderson, Shoemaker, Thornton, Kay, Borucki, with Pearson and Merryweather joining later on, and depth like Hatch, Waguespack and Perez. That’s not a playoff rotation but it’s not “nobody” either.
  4. The new 26 man squad could help where you use that spot on an extra batter. Maybe Madden is just thinking of ways to replicate his ingenious NL subs to prevent getting bored!
  5. Interesting:
  6. If Ryu has any sense, he waits until Cole and Strasburg have signed because the runners up for them will be tempted to turn around and give him $100m.
  7. Despite the lack of rumours, hopefully the Giles trade returns at least one player who is close to the big leagues. I’d be really disappointed if we got a kid and a 40 man surplus player who a team is looking to get rid of anyway.
  8. That's fine, except Ryu (and to a lesser extent Keuchel) would be risky. What possible reason would either have for coming here right now other than money? Ryu especially would demand exactly the kind of overpay that I'd be strongly against when considering his injury risk and that the first year is wasted. It's simply not easy to add people of that quality when many other teams need pitching just as much as we do, but have more urgency and more to offer. I also don't agree with the approach that we have to sign people now for the future. There will be free agents who have Wheeler like years and are suddenly much more attractive, and there are trades and the international market.
  9. There's as much chance of the core underperforming their projections. If just a couple do and added to Bo and Vlad only matching their projections, then we would be shelled this year. Ignore free agents no, but we shouldn't be doing anything that risks future flexibility (e.g. overpaying for top end free agents to convince them to come here) in a attempt to add a few wins. Obviously we shouldn't ignore any deals that improve the team beyond the next couple of years, but we shouldn't be desperate to make such deals right now.
  10. I think Abom just quoted the wrong person - assume he meant to quote the person you quoted who suggested the 2 year deal.
  11. The Red Sox have payroll issues, and the Rays will trade their best players before they get expensive. If the Yankees get Cole or Strasburg but then they blow our their arm, the Yanks rotation will be suspect. Meanwhile if we get 2-3 starters and 2-3 relievers out of the 10 or so pitching prospects that are close, if Vlad becomes a star, if the young core continues to develop, and we get rid of the likes of Drury and McKinney, we'll have a very different 26 man, still have tonnes of payroll flexibility, and be in position to take a big leap forward. Lots of ifs, but we are not the Orioles - we have good young players, more help on the way, and the payroll space to add players in trade or free agency.
  12. Let’s now see how serious the Angels are about putting a winning team around Trout.
  13. According to reports Morrow is only re-signing with the Cubs to prove his fitness. Any deal probably has incentives for making the roster out of spring training too.
  14. Yeah, I see Boras has already responded too.
  15. Mark Lerner is worth over $5billion dollars.
  16. In theory we have surplus catching prospects, so if we do make any prospect trades that's where we should be subtracting from. But yeah, you're probably right.
  17. Yeah exactly, I can't see a long term future for him as a full time outfielder, but as a DH/1B he could he valuable if his bat develops, and it's an area of need.
  18. Possible solution to our outfield issues? Only 2 years of control though and might be better suited to being a corner outfielder now.
  19. Not sure what you're on about, Lindblum hasn't signed for anyone yet? I was pointing out to Glory that putting all hope in us signing Lindblum is likely to end in tears.
  20. Don't get your hopes up:
  21. I'd prefer it if we tried to convert Hernandez to play the same role.
  22. Increasing payroll by $150m only to still have Grichuk in the lineup over Gurriel. Bold!
  23. Yeah anyone that thinks we are are a top ten destination right now is deluding themselves. Once the core developes and we start winning though, we should be a realistic destination for top guys again.
