  1. Honestly this looks like an insane overpay. Tanner Scott is very good but he’s had a lot of command issues in the past. Could actually see this blowing up in their face. But if they defer half the contract they probably won’t give a s***.
  2. I drank out of plastic straw today. And it was beautiful to experience freedom.
  3. We just got Myles Straw guys. No room in the Outfield for Santander. Time to move on.
  4. I wish I got paid for sucking at my job.
  5. It's very possible the Dodgers had a similar deal lined up for Straw and that bonus pool money and the Jays jumped on it first. In the game of leverage your only advantage is making it more difficult for the other party to get what they need but you still don't know the final outcome.
  6. The floor would be extremely important. You have to force markets like Cleveland and Pittsburgh to spend money or the system falls apart.
  7. Salary cap only punishes the players not the owners.
  8. He did the most boring thing he could do and that’s what makes me sad. But at the same time I can’t really blame him. It’s not good for Baseball. But at the same time what can they really do about it.
  9. So what international free agents did the Dodgers have lined up.
  10. If acquiring Straw helps net you Roki you take the L on the money all day and never think twice. You don’t even have to roster him. Sometimes you have to do things you don’t want to do in order to land your big fish. Plenty of holes to fill. But almost nobody on the free agent market can impact the top of your rotation like Roki can.
  11. Yea I don’t think you make this move unless you feel pretty confident. I think the Jays can still acquire a little over 1.4M more which means they could offer him over 10M. Wonder if they will try to max out their additional cap and ofcourse take away options from the Dodgers and Padres.
  12. He wants his own spotlight. He goes to the Dodgers he's Shohei's Ohtani's Japanese teammate. He goes to San Diego or Toronto he is the guy in those markets the Japanese media focuses on. I am thinking he signs with the Padres for a variety of reasons including the time zone, the weather, and the overall fit. It will be interesting to see what intrigues him so much about the Blue Jays. I guess the idea of him being a star on the only team in Canada has it's own allure to certain personalities.
  13. I think you wait him out. He doesn't really have any other major suitors and you don't want to be anywhere near 5 years with him. 2 or 3 with a higher AAV should get it done.
  14. Honestly a little disappointed by this. If he was going to pitch another Season I would prefer he finished his career in Detroit. Giants aren’t going anywhere so maybe he can join them at the Deadline. AL Central is so wide open especially with Cleveland blowing it up. Aka not wanting to pay anybody per usual. Probably between the Tigers and Royals,
  15. It would be nice if one of these star Japanese free agents did something interesting for once instead of just going to LA or a big US market. But certainly not holding my breathe. They should be trying very hard to sign him though.
  16. Spanky is actually making a good point he just communicates it in his own weird way. It doesn't matter where we go on the internet we always have to ignore baseless for clicks rumours. So I don't see why it would be any different here. Just choose the topics you wish to engage in and ignore the others. I personally don't believe anything that isn't originally posted by Jeff Passan or confirmed by Jeff Passan. .
  17. Alright looks like you figured it out. Thank you!
  18. I emailed directly but haven’t heard a new response in a couple of days. None of my emails log me into my Jonn account. And when I go to register it says the username Jonn is already taken. So it exists here I just don’t know how to access it.
  19. I don’t think it matters. They didn’t sign him. It was pretty evident he wanted to be in Arizona. Playing what it games gets us nowhere.
  20. No I’m saying they are stupid for not building a strong foundation to attract free agents with the resources they have.
  21. Absolutely not. Never want to see him try to hit a Baseball again unless it’s for another team. Besides why would he sign back here considering he was salary dumped onto the Rockies. He can’t think favourly of that situation.
  22. You would think Atkins would realize at this point that it isn’t just about money. No player wants to lock into 5+ years when none of the core is signed long term. Trapping themselves into mediocrity isn’t the goal when the money is similar.
  23. Honestly there was a point where giving Vlad the kind of money being discussed would have been a ludicrous situation. We were thinking that in May before he exploded and had a monster rest of the Season. Now the Jays have too pay him. It really is a moot point though… I don’t think Vlad was ever going to sign an extension early. Especially when he wasn’t performing anything like he did in 2021. They really are in a position now that they either have to sign him for more than they ever wanted or trade him. They either overpay him or lose him for nothing otherwise. Which one is better it’s hard to tell unless they actually plan on putting a team around him.
