If the Blue Jays can't hit THIS lefthander tonight, how are they going to hit the one tomorrow? -

Why have a s***** day just because Gibbons makes a dumb decision or Bautista swings for the fences and strikes out? You can't control their decisions so why feel the negative emotion attached to their decisions? Fans owe absolutely NOTHING to these players and organizations to have it affect their own lives in a detrimental way. It's ok to be excited when your sports team does something that you like, but never get angry or upset if they do something you don't like. You don't owe anything to them to have to feel any negative emotion resulting from something THEY chose to do. Why should it make YOU feel bad? Just be indifferent. These players don't know or feel bad if YOU had a bad day at work so why should you feel bad when they have a bad day at "work". They're getting paid millions of dollars to do what they do and should receive no sympathy or have any average joe's life negatively affected by what they do, even if they're dumb enough and cocky enough to go out on their own PRIVATE BOAT at 3 in the morning at a high rate of speed. These athletes think they're invincible and above everyone else because they're so filthy rich and I'm certainly not going to have my life altered in a negative way based on dumb decisions they make on AND off the field. They're laughing all the way to the bank, f*** em, just watch it for entertainment only or stop complaining when your whole life becomes unlivable because Michael Saunders strikes out for the 3rd time on the same pitch in the dirt. -

I've learned over time to not get too emotionally invested in things you can't control like sports outcomes or the weather. Having a balanced life puts things in perspective like a spouse, children, full-time job, errands, and social life with friends and family. With many other things investing your time throughout your day, the pitch by pitch results of a bunch of overpaid athletes becomes of little importance. Unless you're getting paid by the team to sit there and sweat through every game, every scenario, and analyze every stat about every player, it's nonsense to get that emotionally attached to something that's going to happen whether you're sitting there staring at every pitch or if you missed the game entirely because you were doing something else that day. It seems like people that are considered "casual" fans are criticized for not having every sabermetric stat memorized, and don't have their life completely revolve around a professional sports organization that is going to conduct itself the way it wants to whether you're investing your precious time following them or not. "Casual" fans are people that have their priorities in life in order. They go to work, raise their family, and do other necessary grown-up things, and if they happen to have any free time, will enjoy a 3 hour ballgame as you would a movie on television for pure entertainment. People that consider themselves die-hard fans shouldn't be patting themselves on the back. Being a casual sports fan is normal behaviour where your focus and energy are on things that you can control like your job and your family and things that should be more important to you. I'm definitely a casual fan, and I don't consider that an insult, I consider that a part of growing up and putting your priorities in order. Life will go on if your sports team loses, just like you learn at a young age that a breakup with someone is not the end of the world. -

The Blue Jays have to at least win 1 of the next 2 to ensure some kind of a wildcard game. Today would be that day with the least intimidating pitcher on the mound ON PAPER for Boston. You don't want to get beat again today for the 4th game in a row and have it be against a sub .500 pitcher, and then have to get up for the game tomorrow knowing it's David Price in basically a win or go home scenario. -

I guess Pompey and Ceciliani are farther down in the pecking order for pinch-hitting roles than Navarro. It would be nice if the entire lineup was altered for tonight's game. Never understood why Martin is hitting behind the cleanup spot and Tulowitzki below him. -

May want to wear a body cam in case something creepy goes on that you may need to prove in a court of law!! Of course I'm not one to talk, I was a member of the Toronto nightclub website and actually did a meet and greet with a few members from the site back in 2001. Had the wrong shoes for This is London, but enjoyed Tonic, Guvernment, among others!! -

Implosion/Explosion End of Jays 2016
STLJaysFan replied to Olerud363's topic in Toronto Blue Jays Talk
We're supposed to be talking Blue Jays, so I'll end it with this. Rafael Palmeiro vehemently denied using performance-enhancing drugs in front of Congress, and then a few months later, it was revealed to the public that he had in fact tested positive. MLB already knew before the congressional hearings that Palmeiro had tested positive, but agreed to cover for him if he went in front of Congress and put on a show with his nonsense denials to make Jose Canseco look like a lying idiot with no credibility. But after the hearings, MLB was forced to reveal the results of these tests, and wouldn't you know it, Rafael's name was on the list! He didn't JUST start using performance-enhancing drugs after the hearings, he was doing it all along and MLB had his back amongst other players. Canseco was being black-balled from the game, but when all of the allegations that he made about players doing steroids ended up being proven true, MLB looked like the idiot and Canseco was considered the hero. He may never get into the Hall of Fame himself, but Canseco got the last laugh, that's for sure! As far as Ortiz goes, MLB would have no problems covering up his steroid-use during his final season just like they did with players in the past. Ortiz claims he's never failed a test, but as we know from Palmeiro and McGwire, you can't take a players word for it. Sure, MLB has probably tested Ortiz this season, but are keeping the results under lock and key for the sake of his swan song. We all know MLB is crooked, just look at the umpiring crew they jot out every night, so it should come as no surprise that MLB still has favourtism towards which players they allow to cheat and which ones they throw the book at. -

I have nothing against Ortiz personally, it's just that I dislike Boston so much and I don't want to see them get away with something JUST because they're Boston. And since the Blue Jays are in the same division, I just want to make sure that Boston is winning the division fair and square and not being helped by mlb. I read that the Mitchell guy who created the Mitchell report was affiliated with the Red Sox, and conveniently didn't include big name players like Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz....hmmmm.... -

It goes without saying, that second wildcard spot makes it exciting for alot more fanbases which is good for baseball, more tickets sold. At this point, as long as the Blue Jays are not officially eliminated on Sunday, that's fine with me. Tie-breakers to play tie-breakers is better than off-season discussion. -

You must have been following the game on the GDT also if you know that. You can't tell me there's not something fishy going on with Ortiz's stats as a 40 year old ready to retire. It doesn't go with the normal decline of an athlete. And that's just not my opinion, I've read and heard that from several people. I just want to see him tested this year. If he comes back clean, then good for him, if mlb knows he's juicing during his farewell tour but will turn their backs on it since he's a baseball icon for the beloved Red Sox and it would look bad for him to be caught cheating, then that's more big-market east-coast bias. And that's not sour grapes as someone told me, that's just using my eyeballs and my brain. Say what you want about Jose Canseco, but I've read both of his books, and you wouldn't believe the s*** that baseball will sweep under the rug when it's in their best interest to do so. Afterall, it's a business foremost, like when they pretended to have no knowledge of the steroid use during the 1998 home run chase because of all the tickets they were selling. Same thing with Ortiz, it would look bad on baseball if it was found out he was juicing during his retirement season so mlb will just pretend nothing is going on. I have no proof, but I would like to see proof that he's not on steroids. If Ortiz played in a different market, the suspicions would be talked about more. -
Postseason scenario for the Jays
STLJaysFan replied to GodDonaldson's topic in Toronto Blue Jays Talk
I've been a Blue Jays fan since 1999 here in St. Louis (long story), and even if they fall out of the playoffs on the last day of the season, to me it's still better than not even following baseball in August and September like I'm used to doing. Delgado's 4 home runs against the Rays in September? The Blue Jays typical 7 or 8 game winning streak at the end of the year to make their record look better than it really was, all too little too late! I'll take a collapse in Boston the last series of the season versus barely checking the box scores the last 50 games of the season and not recognizing half the players since they're all call-ups. s***, I remember when it was considered a failure if the Leafs didn't at least make it to the second round, now I'm happy if they can even play meaningful hockey in March and April. -

People shouldn't be like that Jimmy Fallon character in "Fever Pitch" where his life revolves around the winning and losing of a baseball game that he has no control over. I used to kind of be like that when I was in my teens and early 20's, but now I'm 35 and have my priorities more in perspective. Sports are fun to follow, but it should NEVER alter your day-to-day life especially when you can't control the outcomes. Fans seem to care more about the results than the players who are involved who are getting paid either way. It's alright to feel like you're a part of something and to live vicariously through your favourite sports team's ups and downs, but always remember that stuff you can't control should not have too much emotion attached to it. That's just part of growing up and realizing what's REALLY important in life, and what should just be considered pure entertainment only. At my age of 35, I'm older than most players in the league so I'm not going to idolize someone who's 10-15 years younger than me, no matter how much money they make, like I would when I was in my teens and had posters of my favourite players on my wall who were alot older than me. Not to patronize anyone on here who could be a teenager or a twenty-something, but it's ok to be a fan of a sports team, just don't let it dictate how you go about your daily life. -

Farrell and Price can both f*** the Jays over! Plus Orioles and Rangers both in the playoffs would be a big middle finger to Toronto. Odor punches Bautista and the Rangers win their division while he and the Blue Jays whimper off into the off-season. -
