f*** it. Let's do it
CBT be damned. If jays are rocking pre trade deadline than rogers can just jack up the ticket prices and playoff prices + all new merch sales to pay for that cbt
If they shjt the bed trade scherzer, bassit, bichette etc at deadline to finish season under CBT
Lets f***ing do it Roger's we know you got the money and if they win and go deep in playoffs you'll make that money back + some
nevermind. found it online
Boras represents Scherzer Bregman and Alonso
to me this pretty much confirms it that one of those sluggers will come here
Scherzer definitely wants to win. I don't think he's interested in proving he can pitch ...
awesome news. awesome signing!
Adding Scherzer to the bottom of the rotation is key. limit his innings so he's good to go for the playoffs
biggest thing he'll bring to this team for me is poise and leadership.
my bold prediction for this season is that Varsho figures it out and becomes a 230/300/500 bat and he'll start mashing 30-40 HR a years.
he was really really close to this in 2022.
So he'll be Santander offensively but, with a Gold Glove.
To the posters on here that understand advanced analytics much better than I do. i'd love to hear some feedback if any analytics support my prediction, or if i'm way out to lunch?
What are your guys thoughts on likelihood that the Jays could strike a trade with the Dodgers for a SP, or even RP
I know health is a huge concern for them as all of Snell, Glasgow, May, Consolin and the 3 Japanese musketeers have missed either all of 2024 or large parts of 2024 but they're still 8-9 pitchers deep in the rotation.
You'd surely think some of their agents are probably going to the front office and asking "so what's the plan, will my client get any starts this year?"
Might be a good opportunity to pick up a guy like Dustin May as a #5 / #6 for us and build back up ?
I agree here i just don't see how any sane GM or team can justify giving Vladdy this much money
Mets f***ed up the market with Soto and now the superstars i think will have unrealistic expectations
40M a year just seem nuts. Take this off-season as an example you probably can sign Bregman and Santander for that money....
lol. yes sorry i meant as in overall payroll. We went from Shapiro saying payroll will be similar in 2025 to 2024 to now the Jays being in the second apron with Jays still being in on Alonso.
Alonso would probably push us or get us close to the 3rd apron.
true but they're not a gold glove center fielder.
Straw and Varsho could arguably cover 75% of the outfield. Would allow the 3rd outfielder to shift in gap or down the line and reduce probability of extra base hits.
I know it's fun to s*** on Shatkin's theory of defense, defense, defense but, defense does win games, and defense does show up every day. A run saved is as valuable as a run scored.
I don't mind the Straw acquisition is all i'm trying to say.
Maybe Rogers doesn't like rejection so he went to atkins and shapiro and said f*** it, spend whatever you need just make sure you show the baseball world that we're not a bridesmaid?
Santander will be in LF / RF. Doubt Springer will play a full season so i don't see why Santander needs to play DH unless it's for rest days.
Vlad/Alonso at 1B/DH i think is doable.
only downside to have both Vlad and Alonso is that you can utilize the DH to rest Springer unless you sit one of them or you move Vladdy to 3B for certain games.
Also Bo doesn't need DH games, the guy is 26 years old...
considering the rumours were 5/125 than how can we not be happy with 5/92? that seems like a great deal for a guy that just smashed 44 HR and just turned 30.
Jose Bautista, Edwin Encarnacion and Josh Donaldson all had their breakout season at 29
This is also why i think it's too early to give up on guys like Kirk (26), Varsho (28), Gimenez (26).
If utilized correctly and money isn't an issue than Straw can absolutely offer value to the Jays in used minimally and situationally.
Straw and Varsho in the outfield when closing out a game will be unreal. Not sure how good i feel about a defensive outfield of Satander and Springer
why not also Alonso? I'd love it if they could make it happen
Springer
Bichette
Guerrero
Satander
Alonso
Kirk
Clement
Gimenez
Varsho
Martinez, Barger, Wagner, Loperfido, Jimenez, Clase, Straw, and Roden offer some intereting young bench options
f*** it. Trade Vlad and Bo now
Don't want to see another round of Batista, ED, Donaldson etc walk out for nothing or pennies in the dollar
Along as rogers is committed to spending money than I'm ok with retooling and sucking for a year
Try being a canucks and blue jay fan right now. Constantly checking if one signed sasaki and the other trades Miller or Petterson.
Makes for a very productive day
Francis and Swanson/Sandlin in relief
And I believe both Bassitt and Francis didn't start throwing the splitter until recently so it does point to an organization that is starting to value the splitter and is investing in its development
agreed and that's still give us 6 serviceable options. and maybe Bloss and Macko can surprise us and push for some limited innings by mid-end season
Sasaki
Gausman
Berrios
Bassitt / Flaherty
Francis
Rodriguez
agreed
i like another posters idea that if we land Sasaki maybe we can trade Bassitt for a bat and relocate Bassitt's money to Flaherty if he's interested in coming here. Than sign one of Alonso, Sat, or Briegman.
yeah that's my train of thought too. and with the money owed to him i'm sure nobody would pick him up if we had to send him to AAA (i assume he has no options ). If used situationally i think he'll provide value and might even help us win / close out some games.
worthy gamble for 5M this season to try to land Sasaki. Can't be too conversative in my opinion.
anyone know what Straw's advanced metrics show about his base running skills?
If he's elite on defense (gold glove) and baserunning than would he be the worst option to have as the 26th man especially as Springer is regressing defensively? and if we're adding Satander and/or Alonso our team speed and defense would suffer so i'm just trying to play devil advocate here to see if there's any value here as having him as the 26th man to pinch-run and defensive substitution late in games?
As other said overall i too think Loperfido, Clase and Berroa project better as an overall player but, neither are gold gloves and he may project better as a situational utility player?
