    I agree. But wasn't there a recent piece, and I don't remember from where, and they were ranking the best.....fastball, curveball, changeup, etc...Estrada was rated as best changeup and best command in the AL. And I thought to myself...he walks a lot of guys for having this remarkable command people speak of.

    I'm sure he does have a lot of leeway. But cite the case where a player is given a multi-year extension, and 3 months later is released. I'm sure it's happened, but probably for off-field reasons. Do you really think they will give up on him because of a rotten couple of months? Ya...it's not like he's ever really lit the world on fire but they must've like him enough to offer him the extension in the first place. Sorry folks...Smoak is going nowhere...at least not until this time next season at the earliest. It's just really bad optics for Shatkins to release him this soon.

    How do you think Rogers would react to, 'we just gave Smoak $8-9M a couple of months ago, now we're gonna let him go.' Not too favourably. Smoak isn't going anywhere for that reason.

    To be serious for a second, the 'Can Russell Martin live up to his Contract' thread is a good example for this. Russell started like s*** and now he's on fire. Players can get into a rut... Hitters and pitchers. This could very easily just be a bit of a rut that he's in... Possibly a little tired... Some nagging injuries... Mechanics could be just a bit off... Or just some rotten luck. A combination of all of those things is more likely than he's becoming the Estrada from 2014 and prior. I think he'll be just fine.
