I don't care as much about framing as I do his bat. As long as he's not a butcher behind the plate. Is he an improvement over Thole with the bat? Can you actually pinch hit with him in a pinch?

I think what some people are feeling falls somewhere in between. He's not automatically a saint, but we also don't hate his guts and want to piss on his grave. What I feel is that it's terrible that he's dead, but I'm not going to ignore or hide from the fact that he did this to himself by making a stupid decision and endangering himself and others. Makes me angry that this is still so common. This isn't the 50's where people didn't really know the dangers. This is just being dumb.

I don't think Atkins is willing to admit to a bad signing that quickly. He'll keep him around out of spite or fear of backlash before admitting that Smoak shouldn't be here IMO.

I agree. Forget putting yourself in danger by drinking and driving. How about everyone else on the road? People that engage in that kind of behaviour don't really seem to care much about others too much. But I'm supposed to be heart broken and sympathetic? Completely avoidable and makes me angry cause stupidity takes another life.

He doesn't make it easy to like him. He's not a very likeable character at all. This is a very good deal for the club. The bat is still very dangerous, and that alone is well worth the money, but I'm glad he was taken down a couple of notches throughout this whole process. I think a big helping of humility can be a good thing for him.
