  1. u must mean only '13 and after...
  2. I tend to be with you wishing Alex would have stayed, a lot of it for his professional development. If he is really the gun-slinger/frenetic guy and shapiro is the intellectual/process driven guy, it would have been an awesome combination. Not to mention what we as the fanbase as well as the franchise have put up with as AA "hits his stride" in these 6 years - I would have liked to recoup some of that... No small thing too is the fact that he is a local boy - I am usually not that patriotic but living all these years in the US and me getting older has done that to me....
  3. "One other Jays person remarked, regarding Shapiro, "I didn't see his rings. Maybe they didn't get past the border." whoa nelly!!
  4. in my mind, getting shapiro is definitely a coup... i would have liked to see however him and AA work together and watch AA get to the next level of growth by learning from shapiro...all these years spent essentially investing in AA's "education" ... the one regrettable thing and serious cf in all of this is rogers ...it's bush league how they've handled this, not only today but going back to tampering Duquette and willams and then having reinsdorf call Beeston; i get mad when guys like reynold and others make fun of the "guys up north" and then you turn around and one of the biggest company in canada is reinforcing all these stereotypes... shapiro, hopefully with a new mgr soon - these are the things that i'm looking forward to...
  5. i am with you. villan is rogers... don't blame shapiro one bit...
  6. one thing i never figured out is whereas both reynolds and steve phillips were at espn when they were also known as melrose's place, reynolds eventually ended up with the prime-time gig and phillips is still floating; what's up with that??
  7. yeah Loria was owner of the Expos '98 to '02; same time that AA was there but not sure whether they actually had interactions...
  8. sort of weird timing with the fish ... u start the day with no GM openings in the league; then the AL exec of the year is a FA and now you have an opening .... http://i.imgur.com/aAdzY6V.gif
  9. http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m5cxytSSML1r5j47h.gif
  10. lol ... true about the last part except the s***** job is being a bus boy and moving up to being a waitor in west la
  11. isn't this how it works when you see a headcount posting like this - a new guy comes in and has a list of things he wants to see from the dept; they are asked to assess what part of it they can accomplish and not accomplish with the existing bandwidth they have; the go back to the new guy and tells him that without additional bandwidth, they can't do all that's asked; the new guy goes to management and get approval for adding the headcount... if this is credible then what this says is that the existing analytics group was not staffed at the level that shapiro wanted; so does this give more cred to the "philosophy difference" and that it's along the lines of "scouting vs analytics"?
  12. lol barry ... even your peers are mocking you
  13. it wasn't; when they did the jimenez deal, shapiro said something to the effect that he wouldn't have done it as a gm but he ok'ed it to support antonetti or that he trusts him but then griffin/star reported that supposedly he told some "national media outlet" that he misses the hands-on personnel moves and that's why he took this job; griff reported it before AA made it official...
  14. u know the whole college football rivalry thing ... what they do before the big game ... just sayin....
  15. i really can't believe this "he wants final say" reason. You'd expect most if not all GMs are accountable to the president. i more think this is one of difference in vision - what the bschool wenies call strategic focus. the one thing that strikes me is the presumptiveness of shapiro. he may be a good baseball man and from what I can read, he is well respected. but being a "knowledgeable baseball guy" is different than a "knowledgeable canada baseball". if he was really the good business/executive, i was always told one of the things is when you get into a new organization/enterprise, you listen and observe first, even though you already have decided your course of action. for the sake of the franchise, i sure hope shapiro is really that good exec who listens and observes and tries to learn what baseball in canada is about and realizes that not everything that worked in cleveland will work here
  16. i agree. they may get one that will have _better_ results, then there's no way he'll show more passion for the job; for AA being where he came from and who he is, it's not an exaggeration to say for him it was a labor of love
  17. All this about Rogers getting bad rep, isn't it the case of "there's no such thing as bad PR?" Based on the media outlets that they owned and the services they provide, it's not like consumers are going to unsubscribe or anything is it? I may be talking out of my ass here as I don't live in TO. Here in the US, if I am pissed at my cell carrier or cable company, there are very limited options and in most cases, people stick with it... Rogers is probably trusting on Shapiro not only not screwing up from '15 but build upon it and the fans will still come regardless of how they feel about ownership... in other words, they are counting on it all depends on the product on the field...
  18. why? because he may be a douche between the lines going hunting with JD's head an all.. but outside the lines, he is a son, a husband and as much as he is douche between the lines, i can't imagine what's he's going thru now outside the lines; guess i'm saying baseball is personal to me; it was my dad who took me to the Ex in April back in '77 against the Sox and as much as the back and forth in this board, it's all fun'n stuff; then there's stuff that transcends all of that i've taken the photo out; it was an AP photo anyways but i feel the same way; maybe u guys are too young to get that but at some point, you will
  19. RIP Daniel Volquez edited: remove photo
  20. u r so on it! KC are so likeable; bunch of nice guys; and those Jays are bunch of ass-holes... and u know what happens when the *******s meets the nice-guys in the alley in the back right ...
  21. FINALLY!!! someone get this f***in thing back on track For those who are glad to see AA out the door, it'll be another Farrell all over again - a guy learns his craft here in TO and when he finally gets it, he takes his skills elsewhere... yeah sort of like TO is the pre-show for THE show ....
  22. if you haven't been able to watch... i should be the one to apologize for what you are about to see
