  1. the first thing i thought about when i heard the news was the shapiro-huntington relationship and whether shapiro leveraged that to get some "inside info" on how "fixed" happ really is...
  2. Dodgers seem more likely of a landing spot for him than Marlins; if true, then the cruz move is maybe part of the master plan...
  3. in the introductory presser, just before MS announced gibby would stay he said something to the effect "i don't know why there would even be questions ..." and then in an interview with campbell, campbell made the mistake of saying "gibby will be your manager to start the season" at which MS corrected him and stated that's not what he said sure hope all this of this is some showmanship by MS so that he can let the new GM give gibby the boot...
  4. There is no doubt that Osuna is more valuable as a starter for all the reasons stated. But we had BP/stopper issues and we basically threw everything at it and nothing stuck. The real issue goes back to the off-season where we knew we needed help. For a variety of reasons, saving funds for the trade deadline, signing Martin, etc, AA chose not to do anything with the BP. The BP did not stabilize until Osuna emerged - and it was after several iterations at that. Wishing Osuna was a starter/developing in minors and thinking now that we could have solved our early season BP issues without him is "having our cake and eating it too". If AA had done something in the off-season, then maybe but he chose not to
  5. brunt interview with shapiro .... not much new info ... but it says part 1 so maybe will get more interesting later... http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/brunt-goes-one-on-one-with-mark-shapiro/
  6. i was wondering about this, in the ALCS especially. Based on the basic stats: http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/team/_/stat/batting BABIP for the entire postseason if my math is right: Royals: .289 Mets: .262 Jays: .268 Cubs: .230 The surprising thing is during the regular season, Royals were .301 and the Jays were .298 - it sure didn't feel like it during the series. So this gives cred to the argument that it's a small sample size, etc
  7. Congrats! u r not related to/one and the same as "real boys in blue" are you?
  8. there was a piece by zwellin's sit-down with him in the KC clubhouse after Gm 6. The whole bit about how he "never felt comfortable" the entire season. the other was a piece by brunt who i guess is well respected that said out of the core, tulo was the one that may be moved... it seems tulo is not only frangile physically but the real sensitive type too
  9. having several days to "stew" on this, as shocking and unexpected AA's decision was, i think it's time that he moves on. it's like the founders/management team of a start-up that has grown and become successful. they've added staff and are now competing in a different landscape than when they were still a struggling start-up. the board/owners brings in a new management team, "professional" managers to bring the company to the next phase. this is the best analogy (from my personal experience) i can draw i appreciate AA for the raw passion that he put into the job. i honestly can't say "f*** him; he left the team". he was the man for the team for a "season". for the franchise to move onto the next phase, we need new mgmt. as much i appreciate what AA has done, i also am in the corner that this change should have happened quite a while ago. different times call for different measures
  10. would seem reasonable. Gm 6 drew an average over 5M peaking at peaking at 7M (I think) and the gold medal hockey game in '10 drew in 15M...
  11. Gm 5 Ratings (US) 17.5M viewers compared to last year's SF/Royals at 12.7M. Largest ever Gm 5 was Yanks/Marlins was 19.9M back in '03 Packers/Broncos was tops at 23M http://www.adweek.com/tvnewser/royals-wins-world-series-but-cant-beat-nfl-in-ratings-battle/276284
  12. we are saying the same thing
  13. i really don't know how loria gets away with what he does - both with the fanbase and the league; this whole expos-marlins with him, henry and selig is the epitome of a old boys network...
  14. tony seems like a real genuine guy - he talks about his friendship (like a brother) with AA and how he'll miss him multiple times and yet he is very believable that he is going forward, working with mark and believes this is already a great org... i expected MS to be the pro so that wasn't a surprise; this with TL is a surprise...
  15. lol Tony keeps saying AA is happy; yeah u can enjoy for about a week and then maybe 2... then what are you going to do? what stake out at chuck e cheese? my bet is that he's going to jump back into the fray sooner than rather later
  16. Here's the story behind his interview with the O's back in '11 http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/22297882/33074876
  17. Here's the original story http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/22297882/33074876 Also he interviewed with the Angels but he had stated that was more of a backup in case AA doesn't resign
  18. that's entirely possible. he has garnered interest in the past from other clubs and it seemed that it was his decision to continue working under AA
  19. interesting he said "most interesting... the draft" - guess he's going to hang his hat on Lindor...
  20. or JD is doing a "Billy Boy" again...
  21. a lot has been said about the goodwill between the 2 clubs and the indians not blocking the 2 execs move to TO as long as it's not lateral and not asking for comp with the MS hiring; it may be a dream but if MS ever prys tito over, i wonder what would happen then; i know tito has stated publicly that he won't opt out and there's his father's ties back to the club and all that...
  22. sorry i didn't say it very clearly in my OP - what i meant is that it seems it was AA's idea to expand the deal only after which he went to PB for permission btw i believe PB should be as much hated as Rogers; he basically treated rogers like a charity collecting a paycheck doing minimal; talk about a cushy job; both AA and PB had it in spades
  23. it seems that it was a discussion between AA and marlins and then he went to PB for permission http://www.thestar.com/sports/baseball/2012/11/20/blue_jays_trade_paul_beeston_to_alex_anthopoulos_go_after_it.html
