  1. i'd consider breaking 'em up with Saunders to add a lefty stick to the mix.
  2. slaying your girlfriends aside ... how many total home runs do you predict from the Bautista, Edwin & Donaldson trio?
  3. following up on what TwistedLogic said above re time commitment ... are there any fantasy leagues where you just pretty much live or die with what you do on draft/auction day? ... assemble your team (with perhaps a few reserves) and then (other than say the possibility of trades) sink or swim with what ya got?
  4. if he brings a world series to toronto i might be ok with that haha.
  5. I told Gibber that he's the most underrated manager in baseball and he hugged me and my wife (more my wife haha) and said he really really appreciated it.
  6. wife and i had a good night. i drank double digits in beers (while wifey was into the red wine) and we shot the s*** with John, Alex & Paul, one-on-one. Gibby's a dude i'd go to war with.
  7. so the Canadian star ... who just signed the biggest FA contract in team history ... and who is billed as being the undisputable character guy who's gonna (finally) lead this team to the promised land ... is gonna be riding pine on opening day at Yankee Stadium?
  8. yeah, I think he'll first think of Dickey and then think (well who's catching him?) and then think (do we really want the Dickey-Martin battery to debut on the big stage at Yankee stadium for the season opener?) ... and then his thoughts will turn to Stroman.
  9. i'll predict that it won't be Dickey because they'll want Martin in there on opening day and - even if Russell will be catching Dickey's starts - they won't make them opening day batterymates ... Buehrle is out since the Yankees rock him ... so between Hutch & Stroman ... Hutch probably would have more composure ... Stro would be (perhaps) a little too pumped pitching in front of friends and family at the season opener in Yankee stadium ... however i'll guess that Stroman will be given the ball.
  10. just heard Jerry Howarth say for him it's Hutch.
  11. well (since there are countless examples of really bad long term deals) I guess there are different definitions of "the right player."
  12. but haven't they already said that (while it's a general guideline) for the right guy under the right circumstances they're willing to go beyond 5 years? you think if they had the chance to lock up Mike Trout, but he wanted 6 years, they'd say "sorry, no can do, bye."
  13. if you could ask one question to Beeston and/or AA and/or Gibbons what would it be?
  14. funny how Buck brought up the '82 to mid-'85 Jays on PTS today when discussing how the bullpen is crucial (and wasn't settled until Henke arrived on the scene.)
  15. don't you know that the Jays don't lose only because Gibbons made the wrong moves, but they also lose because Gibbons just "sits there in the dugout with no energy" and because he ain't the most polished speaker with the press ...
  16. i'd guess too many late inning meltdowns by our relievers ... but (who knows?) if the plan is to use Sanchez (with Cecil) at the back end of the pen maybe it won't be a weakness?
  17. why hate JPA? ... just because he's not a good, or even average, baseball player (in MLB) when he thinks that he's better than he is?
  18. i'm not too familiar with the format so how does player movement work? after you choose your squad, are "call ups" (or whatever you call them) possible during the season of players that went undrafted? or is it pretty much "hands off" after the draft other than possible trades?
  19. no need to yell (haha) ... Beeston, Alex, Gibby are all very approachable ... the answer given might be that they want to leave themselves some wiggle room to make a big splash at the trade deadline if necessary.
  20. it's held in the Rogers Centre and so the food is most of the same things that are available during games ... from hot dogs & ice cream (if ya want) to the more fancier stuff that they serve up. the beer 'n wine is a-flowin for sure.
  21. ha, guess the deletion of my post happened while you were quoting it (cuz I figured that you were referring to the other guy) ... but, yeah, I think anybody who knows what a "slash line" is also knows that it ain't the be all and end all of evaluating offensive production.
  22. interesting choice for your avatar ... didn't know that Melissa Giraldo had fans in Canada ... my wife knows Melissa fairly well as they were neighbours when they were younger ... I chatted with her a few times when we were training at the same gym in Medellin a couple of years ago.
  23. well the slash line wasn't widely recognized until later in the '90s ... in '92 being a "big RBI man" carried a lot of weight.
  24. question wasn't for me, but (if we're talking about specific Jays who I see play every game of the season - and half of them in person) then why would I rely on what Steamer (or whoever) projects for their stats? ... if we're talking about players who I rarely see play then i'd be more likely to defer to the sophisticated number crunchers.
  25. not the boldest prediction ... I like Gibbons but can't think of any scenario how he could outlast Alex.
