  1. New guy here - can I get the Coles notes reason why everyone on here seemingly hates the marlin and mets deals? Is it just the money that Buehrle and Reyes make? (like FAs are lining up to sign here). Don't get me wrong I'd love to still have Syndergaard and Alvarez, but Reyes was coming off a 5.8 and 4.1 WAR seasons and despite his poor d, he's still been very solid for this team (no idea who our shortstop would have been otherwise). Buehrle has been as good as we could have expected and Dickey has been solid, yet somewhat disappointing. Most of they guys we gave up haven't developed much at all....I don't get it. Learn me ole wise ones...
  2. As was mentioned yesterday. Chicago's a perfect fit for Navarro. Flowers isn't a ML starting catcher and with all the moves the sox made this offseason - they would appear to be lining up for a run at a playoff spot. They have a number of big power arms (which are also erratic) in their pen.
  3. Jones had TJS? Missed that. My bad
  4. Navarro for Daniel Webb? Navarro for Zachary Putnam?
  5. I think he'd be a really solid addition. I'd rather talk players than the currency exchange...How about Carter Capps or Danny Farquhar from Seattle? Josh Fields, Nate Jones....those are a couple more names I'd love to see us acquire.
  6. You'd have to be fairly certain Zobrist is going to age gracefully. To be honest, I'd want him here this coming year and possibly the next - nothing beyond that.
  7. I'll be very interested to see how AA handles Sanchez. In 2011 - Sanchez was his "top" prospect in the organization (despite coming off an a poor statistical year). I heard it from the horses mouth. He loves this kid. Will he fall into the GM man-crush zone where they can't let go of what they thought he'd be (if he doesn't succeed initially)? or will he be able to re-evaluate his development properly and do what's best for the team. It's this type of thing that helps truly define a good GM.
  8. Jesus - the 2016 lineup must be awful!!!!
  9. I like how you're setting yourself up here. Nobody will call you out if Zobrist falls off a cliff, or if Sanchez rounds into a great young starter...
  10. You kind of omit the replacement comes in like 2018...
  11. BTW - this makes me wish we could have dealt Sanchez + to the Braves for Heyward and Walden. Pompey gets another year development.
  12. Do you guys think it would take Sanchez + to get Zobrist? I mean we got Donaldson - who's superior to Zobrist already - and is under control for 4 more years without having to give up Sanchez. Cards gave up a replacement level pitcher in Shelby Miller (Sanchez had a higher WAR last year in only 33 innings...) to get 1 year of Heyward - who was similar to Zobrist last year, projected to be 1.2 WAR above Zobrist this year and is still on the upswing of his career....oh and they got Walden too - who also had a higher WAR than Miller last year. It seems almost everyone on this board is "down" on Sanchez - but I simply don't see the need to even give him up for Zobrist - given the current market values this offseason. He still has a ton of growth in him and these type of electric arms don't grow on trees...
  13. Alomar's ranks #1 in my mind. That was the breakthrough moment vs. one of the most dominate closers in MLB history. For me - it was all about winning their first ever championship. The 2nd one was great - but the first one (and the road to the first one) was THE most important moment in Blue Jays history.
  14. One could argue Joe's homerun wasn't the first or second most "clutch" situation in Blue Jays history. Alomar's HR off Eck and Timlin shutting the door for their first every championship ranks well ahead of Joe's HR in my mind.
  15. Except you don't even know when that was...
  16. Navarro for Randell Delgado? Thoughts?
  17. I'm not sure getting more swings and misses than Buehrle should be the bar that Sanchez aims for. Just sayin'
  18. What do you mean by that?
  19. Really? I know Zob continues to put up decent WAR numbers - but he just doesn't move the needle for me. Great, versatile defense, but he's down to a 10/10 player now. 4 years of Donaldson is the type of player I'd be willing to give up Sanchez for...and we didn't even have to move him to get Josh...1 year of Zob? Pass.
  20. AA loves Sanchez. I was at a Christmas party with him in 2011 and he told us Sanchez was his top prospect...over D'Arnaud, Hutch, Syndergaard, etc. despite coming off a very disappointing season (Sickels ranked Sanchez 10th best entering 2012). I'll be very interested to see if AA falls into the GM man-crush zone where they can't let go of what they thought he'd be (if he doesn't suceed initially).
  21. New to the board - DDL sounds like it's a keeper fantasy league. Any openings? I run a re-draft fantasy league of guys from the ESPN blue jays message board. We're going on our 8th or 9th year now. Would be interested if you have an opening.
  22. Anyone else surprised we haven't signed Gordon Beckham yet? Or was AA's rumoured man-crush on him just a smoke screen? He's cut from the same cloth at Justin Smoak.
  23. He's always hit much better (in relative terms) away from Safeco. He was a big time talent - I think it's worth a shot.....although I'd prefer if he was one of the only "gambles" we had to take. Good news is - 1st/DH has to be the easiest position to "fill"....if this is our "hole" - it's a great place to have one IMO.
  24. I find it humourous when Rotoworld says McGehee is coming off a terrific season....
  25. Yanks deal Prado and David Phelps for Nathan Eovaldi and Garrett Jones. at 25 years old - I really like Eovaldi.
