I don't think KC would give up on Gordon that easily, he has had some awful offensive years before. I think he is an improvement over the likes of Upton, but at that money I would expect a significant improvement

Shatkins doesn't do absolutes. They do conditions. Player A is acceptable at this price Player B is acceptable at this price They do a full risk return analysis. They don't take actions like we must have this player or we must have this draft pick. Everything has an acceptable cost, an acceptable risk, and an expected return -

I just dont understand his mindsight. I will be blown if he gets his 5th year, I cant imagine who it will be. Obviously if they turned it down, then they must have some interest at the 5th year. I know it wouldn't be anyone else in the East. Twins, Royals, Tigers don't have the money. Whitesox are rebuilding and the Indians are better managed That just leaves the West. The Astros, the Rangers, the mariners and the angels. I cant imagine Rangers making a deal like the after what happened with Fielder but it would be an upgrade for them, same can probably be said for the Mariners. He is definitely going to be looking at a deal out West.

I would rather carry an extra Platoon player than another Bullpen arm. You could take two half pieces and turn it into an above average bat at many positions.

Shatkins is doing the right thing. They did their analysis, put a value on Cecil and made an offer. That offer was 3 years likely around 20 Mil. Same with EE, they are doing their valuations, taking risks in to account. My confidence in this regime continues to grow every day. Even though I question how they valued Morales at 3/33 the kind of dillegence these guys give to each decision, makes me think that this is the team to lead us to promised land.
