  1. He's 5'8 150. How much power do you think he's going to develop? Are you happy if he turns into John McDonald? Warmoth is unanimously ranked higher by everyone, scouts, writers, teams, etc. There is a reason for this.
  2. Houck looked like a shell of his former self late this year. Terrible mechanics and stuff way down (90-93 vs high 90's a year or two ago). I guess you hope you can "fix him", but this reminds me of Jon Harris.
  3. Scouts love Warmoth yet people on here see a white college SS with "high floor" label and conclude he's some no-tool dirtbag type. "He's Russ Adams!" Warmoth can really hit. Above-average bat speed and he sprays a stupid amount of line drives (ie: Bichette).
  4. Toolsy college CF's with highly suspect contact ability. I was half joking, but the comparison does make sense. Kendall obviously has louder tools.
  5. If Warmoth was a HS kid you'd love him. Why Allen over Warmoth? Midget with who knows what type of offensive upside, and I actually like Allen. You're falling into the HS= Good, College = Bad trap.
  6. Yea, College kid who can't hit s***. Brilliant. Might be the next JB Woodman.
  7. I doubt it. Lots of talk coming from the front office about getting "the right kids", and kids who will mesh well with their "high performance" system.
  8. Most are held back as kids when its obvious they have a future in athletics.
  9. No, his stock is back up again as a possible under-slot option for teams picking as high as the A's at 6th overall. The last-minute consensus is that he's likely gone within the first 15 or so picks, and even if he falls past that there are several teams in front of us (Mets, Giants) who have been linked to college bats as well who would probably pop him.
  10. Sheets at 28 is dependent on them deciding to go under-slot at that pick, which obviously hasn't been determined. BA may be hearing us "linked" to Sheets a lot, but that doesn't mean that they won't go in an entirely different direction with that pick. As Piliere has noted, we are also heavily connected to HS kids with that pick, so you're looking at two polar opposites (money saving college player vs. HS player who may even be over slot).
  11. Allen has 1st round interest from both the Cubs and Red Sox, as well as us. I don't think you're going to get him at a discount.
  12. Griffin Canning has both elbow and shoulder concerns apparently. Major overuse at UCLA.
  13. Frankie Piliere: thinks the connection of Gavin Sheets to our 28th pick is a case of shopping several guys for potential under-slot deals, although he states that we're still in on several prep players in this spot as well. Can we get Twitter embed already?
  14. MLB.com's grades are all months old and to be honest I'm not sure how relevant they really are at all (you can often find players with similar grades across the board ranked absurdly far apart). Its fun to look at since its more than just a numerical ranking, but its not something I'd take too seriously, especially with players who's stock has seen clear upward trajectory. Also, how s***** is Pearson's control really? He walked 23 batters in 81 innings this season. All recent reports state obvious growth in pitchability.
  15. The Heimlich situation is unfortunate because I believe that experts in that field are very optimistic about "recovery" rates for people in his exact situation, that is that he'll be blackballed because of the optics involved despite there being a very high probability that he never commits a crime of that nature again. A kid like Seth Romero on the other hand likely still goes in the first round despite some obvious demons that stem well past simple "immaturity".
  16. Frankie Piliere is dropping some late stock buzz on Twitter. Warmoth rising late again and in play for the Tigers at 18 apparently.
  17. I saw Bryce Brentz's name pop-up in a AAA boxscore and seemed to remember him being drafted a couple years ago.....he was drafted in 2010.
  18. Olivares also has 4 HR in the last 6 games. 21 year old showing some real power.
  19. Bichette: 3 for 4, two 2B. Up to .388
  20. He's black bro, I'm pretty sure its not sun related. That is kinesio tape on his neck.
  21. 20 year old who hit 101+ mph is a "Deck McGuire pick". Good one. Why pick Pearson over a HS kid? Maybe because he dominated against very good JUCO competition and thus has already proven more than any HS pitcher in this draft.
  22. He should be gone in the 2nd round.
  23. Dalton played in 15 MLB games at age 21 (which would be Tristan's draft age next year), don't forget that. Who knows which one ends up the better player (especially with Dalton's inability to stay healthy), but its important to note that Dalton was hitting extremely well in ~AA/AAA at the same age that Tristan will still be dicking around in College at next year.
