  1. It took them 29 rounds to figure out a way to sign him? What could they possibly have figure out? If there was a "way", they wouldn't have waited until the 29th round to take him, as some other team could have easily taken him for shits and giggles. Look at what they're doing: they took 6 "ranked" players from rounds 24 to 37. They're obviously just drafting these kids for the hell of it.
  2. LOL. You can use some common sense. You are advocating taking guys who will take ~$2 million+ to sign (Beck, Burns) when you know damn well that we haven't saved that money anywhere. No, I don't know what every pick will sign for, but you can use logic again to estimate things. Guys like Kevin Smith, Riley Adams are not saving you any real money. The guys taken rounds 6-10 have such small values allotted to them that you literally only save considerable money if you take guys who will sign for ~$5000 , and we didn't take any guys who clearly fit that profile. The guys we took may not have been ranked 'X' high, but none of them are "I'll sign for a bag of balls and a chance to play" guys either. Maybe you save enough from there to sign one HS or JUCO kid for ~$300K over, but there isn't any real saving there to go after a kid who is dropping because they want seven figures. That isn't even taking into account the fact that we have no idea whether Danner will even take slot to sign. This same thing happened last year when a number of you "concluded" that our ~7th-10th rounders were well under-slot guys when they clearly weren't, and in fact they all ended up signing for around slot. By the way, the single biggest tell as to how much a team has left to spend comes from what they do in the 11th round. They have all night to re-evaluate their board and re-gauge price tags. If they had significant money saved, this is where they'd pop that big HS kid after negotiating the night before. What did we do? We took another College JR.
  3. They were applauding in the background? It was announced earlier today that Beck was going back to Stanford to play with his brother.
  4. To get guys like that signed your have to save significant money somewhere, which we have not done. None of the first 5 picks are underslot selections. I told you guys last night that there were no obvious punt picks to finish yesterday either. They more or less played the first ten rounds straight up. They may have saved a bit of money, but we have no idea if that is going to pay Danner or even Peterson slightly over slot. Again, you keep thinking like we have the money to pay some kid 10x over slot when I've told you a million times that we have not saved significant money anywhere.
  5. No, the "rankings" become largely useless after the first few rounds. Teams draft by their own board, not by what BA generates by picking names out of a hat. Some of these guys might be a bit underslot, but "punt picks" are really obvious: SR players. The one pitcher we took is 6'7 and threw a 14 strikeout game late in the season...they probably like him for where he was picked.
  6. None of these guys except maybe the Clemens are obvious punts. Maybe they save some money, but likely nothing serious.
  7. Even his K and BB rates are only OK, nothing special. People are really reaching to try and make it look like he hasn't been terrible. He is hitting for absolutely zero power. Zero. I don't buy "BABIP AIDS", a slugger should at least show power even if he's being generally unlucky otherwise. Yeah, its still early to write him off, but as a base clogger with zero defensive value, this isn't looking good. This is why that profile very rarely pans out: the bat has to be super special, and by that metric he looks like a turd.
  8. Keith Law is right sometimes. Gotta give him credit for calling Tellez trashy.
  9. Atkins isn't picking players. How many times does this honestly need to be explained?
  10. Frankie Piliere‏@FPiliereD1 #BlueJays take Riley Adams. Like launch angle? You'll like this Adams - swing modeled after Bryant (not a comp) but needs work. Easy power
  11. And? Beck is throwing around a 1st round price tag. Obviously going back to Stanford. Burns obviously isn't signing for 3rd round money, therefore another silly player to hope for. Realize that at this point any HS player we draft will be a "reach" type pick with upside, not a guy who was supposed to go a round ago and is still sitting there undrafted.
  12. Hoping for guys we have zero chance of signing and therefore won't pick...brilliant.
  13. We wouldn't have had the money to draft him anyway....
  14. There was no reason to believe that we would save any money on Stroman who went later than he should have. It was a silly proposition.
  15. By the way, that MLB.com grade on Nikorak: Ranked #15 overall 65 grade FB 60 grade CB 55 grade CH 55 grade Control 55 grade Overall Guys with those supposed tools don't "fall" to #27 because they throw right handed. Turns out that MLB.com was hilariously wrong, which shouldn't be that surprising as guys like Callis in fact are not scouts LOL.
  16. He joins Jon Harris who Callis also revered as a giant "steal". Don't bend yourself too much out of shape. Mike Nikorak was another cold-weather HS pitcher with "everything" who I was praying we'd land. He's been utter trash as a Pro, and he was another "clear mid 1st round talent who only fell because he's a HS RHP". Given how many teams passed up Carlson, to take OTHER HS pitchers nonetheless, should tell you that the MLB.com profile is probably a little bullish.
  17. Landon Leach just went to Minny. Top Canadian HS kid.
  18. They pretty much got the two guys they were on the hardest. Pearson has been getting better and better as the season progressed. Obvious huge upside. I'm sure they are very pleased.
  19. You realize they do medical checks, right?
  20. Its Pearson you f***s. 6'6 240 throws high 90's. Get mad.
  21. Frankie Piliere‏ @FPiliereD1 21m21 minutes ago #BlueJays take Logan Warmoth. He's going to get to the bigs quickly, easy shortstop actions and big time bat speed. Really like this pick
