  1. It'll be tight, but I think they get done, just because this regime has been extremely proficient in draft-budgeting. With regards to Palmegiani: he's committed to Arizona, but their HC just left to take the LSU job.
  2. Where are you seeing this? I haven't seen any Tweets from Callis, Mayo, or Collazo.
  3. I thought it was interesting that the Jays were supposedly all over Solometo, and then he ultimately went to the Pirates with Cherington/Sanders. I imagine there's probably some cross-evaluation that happened there given that the scouting departments of those two teams are "related".
  4. Nope, Tiedemann (3rd round) and Connor Cooke (10th round) are still unsigned among our Top 10 picks. Cooke already has "Toronto Blue Jays Organization" in his Twitter bio so I imagine that he's been signed but it probably hasn't been "officially" announced yet. There are obviously still other draftees from a 11th to 20th rounds that haven't been signed/announced yet either.
  5. That's not how that works. The team calls before the pick is even made and confirms/comes to an agreement in principle on the bonus amount. That's why his family was celebrating before the pick was even made and knew that he was about to be selected at that very moment - they had an agreement in place with the Blue Jays to select him there. So of course he's going to openly say "I'm signing" after the fact, because he wouldn't have been drafted there if he wasn't signing for a pre-agreed upon amount. That amount that was pre-agreed upon is almost definitely going to be over-slot, based off of his leverage/standing in the draft. Now, we can more or less estimate the realistic amount that it would take to sign a HS pitcher of his ranking, and the numbers around that estimate don't really give much room for Holman unless there is some EXTREME savings in the remaining Top 10 picks. Keep in mind that the 19 year old JUCO kid we took in the 3rd round might also get a bit over slot, and we also took a HS OF as well who while unranked, might have also struck a deal for a marginally over-slot bonus (he did have a scholarship to Notre Dame). I think you're reaching pretty hard in trying to find a "reason". The Rangers also drafted Will Taylor in the final round, and his realistic price tag is probably in the $4+ million range (hence why he ultimately wasn't drafted in the 10-20 range despite having the talent to go there) and the Rangers most certainly didn't save up $4+ million to give him. There were also other obvious "this kid is going to school" selections from other teams too; like Gage Jump to the Padres.
  6. I still don't see how or where that money would come from. Irv Carter's slot value is only $350K; I can't imagine that a HS prospect of his caliber is signing for anything below $700K - so a $110K haircut on Hoglund's bonus probably doesn't do anything to help us go even more aggressively overslot on Holman.
  7. He's a real prospect, ultimately it will come down to how much they can do with his swing to get him to hit the ball on the ground less (which is what they're working on with him). He's one of those guys who with a successful swing adjustment could tap into completely unexpected upside because his feel for hitting is really good.
  8. Orelvis Martinez just homered again. #10 on the season.
  9. I doubt it. Those late round picks look entirely like courtesy picks. No different from the Rangers drafting Will Taylor. They likely saved money on their 1st rounder (Jackson Merrill) but they immediately went with James Wood with their next pick - who I believe was flaunting a first round price tag and shouldn't be a slot signing in the 2nd round. I don't think the couple SR's they took afterwards should present enough to get either of those two big HS pitchers signed. If they had that sort of money saved up, they wouldn't have waited till the 18th and 20th rounds to make those picks.
  10. I can't imagine we have the money saved up anywhere to sign him, so this looks more like a token pick or perhaps an insurance policy of some sort? But if we DID somehow pull this off and squeeze this kid in somehow along with everyone else, then it would be a pretty massive signing.
  11. Also: LMAO @ the Orioles. They reach and take Colton Cowser 5th overall. Underslot pick to go big later, right? Nope. They proceed to draft almost exclusively college players, with a ton of senior picks. The draft just concluded for them and they didn't land a single obvious/noteworthy above-slot pick. Even us, with no 2nd round pick and one of the smallest pools in the draft, managed to land Irv Carter as an obvious above-slot upside pick.
  12. The Angels just finished their draft: 20 pitchers selected, 0 position players.
  13. This is actually kinda scary.... Blue Jays draft picks: #19 Gunnar Hoglund Kiley McDaniel Ranking: #20 #91 Ricky Tiedemann Kiley McDaniel Ranking: #90 #121 Chad Dallas Kiley McDaniel Ranking: #122 #152 Irv Carter Kiley McDaniel Ranking: #120
  14. Not just Solometo and Chandler, but also Lonnie White who has late 1st round talent. This is a freakishly good draft. Cherington/Sanders are nailing it.
  15. Yup. Steve Sanders is awesome. Their draft is great.
  16. Canadian HS RHP Calvin Ziegler from Kitchener went #46 to the Mets.
  17. Yup. Savings from Davis go right there. I like Davis and Solometo, good use of money from Sanders/Cherington which isn't surprising at all.
  18. Manuel Beltre just homered!
  19. It's quite silly to suggest that a kid who's peak so far was pitching 33 innings in Low-A has "elite command". Pardinho certainly looked good from that standpoint prior to his injury, but Rusty is right: the stuff itself wasn't incredibly impressive, and something like "elite command" is only attributable at the MLB level. I'm interested to see what the reports are post-TJ.
  20. Joe Mack went about where his range suggested - he was a late 1st round pick in most rankings. He didn't really fall or anything.
