I like Ross Stripling.
One prospect had to be included to get the deal done. Of the real prospects they could trade away, Kendall is the guy I’m most comfortable parting with. The Dodgers could very well turn him into a stud and fans will cry about it, but at some point the team needs to trade pieces away to win. At least if Kendall becomes a stud, he won’t be pitching against us. He’s way too far away to tell.
When Stripling is good, he’s a significant upgrade over Anderson and Roark, while also under control for 2 more years after this season. He was good 2018-2019, four mediocre starts shouldn’t override a two year sample with 1.8 fWAR in 90.1 IP in 2019.
The Blue Jays have added Ross Stripling, Robbie Ray, Taijuan Walker, Jonathan Villar, and Daniel Vogelbach in a week. Those are some serious upgrades and pretty much the entire farm system is still intact. That’s a pretty good job.
