    Its not a terrible thing to have some money to spend mid season, knowing you can add a player in july and taking in a contract was a luxury he didn't have last year. As long as he can patch the remaining holes on the roster with something serviceable. Im intrigued by the japanese guy, but i agree. If this is the final year of their 3 year window.. They trying to win now. Why experiment with unknowns when you have money to sign proven major league players? Just gotta wait and see.

    so in a span of one year, Red Sox's offer for Lester went from $70 mil/ 4 to $135 mill/6 and still didn't win the bid. Maybe they should have gave him a better extension offer last year and avoid all this drama Wow giving up an extra year just to be a cub.

    Yep looks decent. On nights where the bottom third can give you a couple hits.. The top two thirds will have a field day. My only concern now is all 3 of your power guys bat from the right side. Not sure how much of a problem it's going to be but when you can have Joey Ed and Donaldson in the same lineup guess you just have to live with it.

    The point is, not sure if giving away his contract would help increase their chances of signing the pitcher they're looking for. But if you can get McCarthy AND acquire an upgrade at 2B instead #1 pitcher, that would be swell too.

    Could trade Navarro for a vending machine. But it wouldn't help if the pitchers are looking for 6+ years. But does picking up McCarthy accomplish the goal of getting a front line starter? Not sure how legit are those 14 games in NYY. What's the point of getting another #2-#4 guy, we got plenty of those. Rather pay more for a stud.

    But it's probably in their best interest long term to give him a shot at 5th spot. You never know, Marcus wouldn't be where he is now if he didn't get the opportunity.
