  1. Would you do Brusdar Graterol + Trevor Larnach + Jhoan Duran + Jordan Balazovic for Giles + Stroman?
  2. There’s always Korea
  3. Yeah, but if a junior doesn’t sign he becomes a senior and pretty much loses leverage in bonus negotiations. Sometimes the difference is very significant (150K vs 10K bonus), it’s case by case.
  4. The Twins could really use Ken Giles and they’ve got some good prospects. If they believe in their WS chances, that could be enough for them to give a more aggressive offer.
  5. He’ll be back for sure. I think he still needs a few weeks on the roster until we keep him for good
  6. From what I saw, Vlad Jr was basically Willie Mays of the minor leagues offensively. I know they don’t play the same position, we’re talking about at the plate. Every fly ball had a chance to leave the park, and he hit everything from FB to secondaries. There are stories of him guessing pitches on the on-deck circle and smash them during his turn. Hit tools like that don’t come every day, Vladdy has batting-title in his prime type of offensive ceiling. Despite being the youngest guy at every level, his bat-to-ball ability was elite and the pop off his bat was special. He was a very disciplined hitter during the minors. He occasionally swung at bad breaking balls but either spit on it or fouled them off, but would lay off pitches that weren’t close. His K rate has always been low for the amount of power he generated. That hasn’t translated yet but it’s only a matter of time. We really haven’t seen “hot streak” Vlad yet. When he goes on a tear for two weeks he looks unstoppable. Like P2F, I’d say give it time. Game is slowing down for him but he’s still making adjustments. He’s trending in the right direction.
  7. Is this what does Biggio looks like when the umps don’t screw him over?
  8. Stroman+ for Forrest Whitley let’s go I hear he threw a fit a couple times on the mound, buy low! We can even throw in some compromising Osuna pictures in to sweeten the deal. They can even have Alford to “soften the blow.”
  9. http://66.media.tumblr.com/822115f1a9c92b61a901f467176ecffa/tumblr_n4p35sJjiZ1s26dsio3_250.gif
  10. Also Vlad has 7 hits in 4 games since you guys called him out last Tuesday And if anyone wants to hear the RadioScouts Cats meowing its @21:00 mark
  11. For sure. There’s some very exciting prospects drafted out of Vanderbilt this year, including JJ Bleday, and yet scouts can’t stop raving about 3B/SS Austin Martin, good thing he’s not draft eligible till next year when we could potentially pick him I can’t gauge his ceiling, like are we talking Carlos Correa, Nolan Arenado, Dansby Swanson, or Nick Senzel? I’m not sure yet, it’s too early to tell.
  12. The most hyped guys don’t usually end up the best players. In years where the number 1 pick busted or underperformed, guys taken afterward can turn out pretty good. I’m doing an article on the Blue Jay’s past draft history and drafting top 5 vs drafting 12. And next year’s draft pick. It covers this topic that should be posted in the RadioScouts blog soon. So far there’s no clear consensus no. 1 in 2020, unlike in 2019 where Adley Rutschman remained a category above the rest for like 10 months before the draft. There will be plenty of talent to choose from in the top 10 next year. edit: Article here: Myth Busters: Is Tanking Worth It?

  14. Someone’s cat @21 minute mark is just adorable. Is that Alan’s? John’s?
  15. Nice to see Andrew back. Yeah Grichuk hasn’t been great, but let’s hope he does that second half bounce-back thing.
  16. You make some good points Nick. I was also putting some thought into Frazier. There’s some upside in the bat, and he’s still only 24. But the K/BB is alarming, the defense has been questionable. Still, he would instantly slot into middle of the current lineup. He would probably hit better than Teo/Grichuk but that’s not saying much. I can see Shatkins really wanting their guy back though. Ideally I’d rather center the package around a guy with frontline upside, even if he’s not yet in Triple-A/MLB. That is the gaping hole and single biggest need in the organizational depth chart. OF there’s still a chance to sign and grab from FA market, good controllable young arms are very hard to get. And I’d go quality over quantity. Give me one A guy rather than three B guys. I’m really not thrilled by any of the arms down in NY that they would be willing to part with, FO might have to find a different trade partner. A couple of the NY arms are either very high variance (A+ or lower) or injury prone.
  17. Some farm updates: Yennsy Diaz has bounce back and forth between decent and spectacular. The spectacular ones are eye-popping. Today he pitched 8.0 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K. Prior he also had 3 outings where he pitched 7 innings: June 5: 7.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 K May 21: 7.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 8 K May 14: 7.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 4 BB, 2 K Still 22 years old, his current numbers in double-A: 66.2 IP, 3.92 ERA, 4.09 FIP, 4.20 xFIP, 1.20 WHIP, 7.29 K/9, 3.51 BB/9 Hector Perez has also looked better since May. In 8 starts he's pitched 44.2 innings, 3.22 ERA, 3.95 FIP, 1.37 WHIP, 38K/19BB, 7.66 K/9 and 3.83 BB/9 Forrest Wall's resurgence has continued, he's still batting .290/.381/.455, OPS .837. Also hit a leadoff homer yesterday. He's look pretty decent in CF, should be moved to triple-A soon. One guy we signed last year from the international FA market has really stood out: 17-yr-old, 6-1 R/R, Catcher Javier D'Orazio signed from Venezuela, he's batting .382/.475/.471, OPS .946 in his first 10 games in the DSL. Signing bonus N/A. Alejandro Kirk is still hitting and walking a bunch, 170 wRC+ and batting .268/.365/.507 in Dunedin. Still a solid 14.4% walk rate and good 13.4% K rate, but not hitting as much power in the FSL. ISO dropped from .221 -> .134 since Lansing. Griffin Conine has cooled-off a little bit, just putting up a measly .369/.423/.785, OPS 1.207 in 17 games for Lansing. Otto Lopez has been a bit under the radar, hitting .304/.365/.398, OPS .762 now in 46 games. Not hitting a lot of power but he's getting on base. Needs to improve defensively though, still making a lot of errors, but they were playing him exclusively at SS since Groshans is on the IL. Lopez went on a 6 game multi-hit streak and was pretty hot, but I think he's been on the IL since May 31. Missed the annual StarWars night (boo!), they even used him as the poster boy, not sure how he's going to recover from that, career might not be salvageable after missing such an important day. Gabriel Moreno is still batting .268/.365/.507, OPS .872 and 147 wRC+ in 23 games, just ended his 5 game hitless streak today. Pretty impressive what’s he’s done as a 19-yr-old catcher in first time full-season ball. Maximo Castillo has also been very good in High-A, 63.2 IP, 2.83 ERA, 3.06 FIP, 3.57 xFIP, 1.10 WHIP, 47 K to 11 BB in 12 starts. Only 20 years old, 6-2 R/R. Logan Warmoth got his first hit in double-A. Bo Bichette is also back in action in Buffalo. A couple of guys that made the minor league All-Star teams: P Nick Allgeyer (Dunedin) P Graham Spraker (Dunedin) P Brad Wilson (Dunedin) C Riley Adams (Dunedin) **Promoted to AA 3B Cullen Large (Dunedin) **IL P Josh Winckowski (Lansing) P Cobi Johnson (Lansing) 1B Jake Brodt (Lansing) 2B Nick Podkul (Lansing) C Ryan Gold (Lansing) Eastern League rosters not announced, game on July 10. FSL game on June 15 MWL game on June 18
  18. A couple Blue Jay young arms came back from the IL started pitching again. David Paulino hasn’t pitched since April 30, came back and had two appearances for the Bisons so far. Following a performance on June 11 going 4.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K, he pitched again today 5.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K and his first win this season in Buffalo. Looking a little bit better than earlier this season, will continue to monitor if he stays in the rotation. T.J. Zeuch also came back from his lat strain last Tuesday pitched 4.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 K for Dunedin, should eventually make his way up to Buffalo. Jon Harris came back last Sunday and got hammered in Dunedin pitching 2.2 IP, 9 H, 7 ER, 1 BB, 6 K, but his second start on Friday in NH looked better 3.0 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K. Julian Merryweather and Borucki are on track to return as well.
  19. I think there’s a difference between a guy that looks completely clueless at the plate, swinging at everything and gets nailed constantly by breaking balls (e.g. current version of Grichuk) vs. a guy that is very aggresive at the plate and goes after borderline pitches, but sees the ball well, has good bat-to-ball ability, and prefers not to settle for walks. LGJ is closer to the second type of hitter, and so is Bo Bichette. If you look at all of Gurriel’s XBH the past month, almost half of them have been off tough pitches like sinkers and sliders. He’s been laying off more pitches out of the zone as well. Someone pointed out above, His BABIP really isn’t that high either. He’s only in his second year and already posting 120-130 wRC+ and ~.800+ OPS type figures, that’s not bad at all. Nobody is thinking Gurriel should be your no. 2/3 hitter on a great team, he is a fine 5-7 type hitter. He’s also not eating any significant payroll and under many years of team control, there’s really no point slandering the poor guy especially when he’s been picking things up recently. If he can keep up 120 wRC+ while being adequate at LF that’s an everyday player. In a system currently severly lacking in OF talent, I’m not complaining.
  20. What did they feed him down in Buffalo
  21. Did we go back in time today to 2015 or fast forward to 2021?
  22. The guy leads the league in swinging fewest balls outside the strike zone @8% and somehow has a 30.8% K rate and still a 18.5% BB%
  23. 7th round pick 2B LJ Talley started in Lansing
  24. If they’re getting both Stroman and Giles we better be hauling in some real blue chip guys in return. Newcomb has less years of control and history of command issues. We want a guy with a bit more to dream on, we don’t really have a shortage of backend guys. Also not a huge fan of Ender Inciarte. It would be an upgrade because our OF is bad, but upgrading on 2019 season shouldn’t be the goal in a Stroman/Giles package. It should be 2021++. Dude is also having a bad year while also dealing with back issues. All this fantasy trade talk is a moot point but if the Jays for some reason do talk to the Braves they need to be careful. A lot of those arms have either been fast tracked like crazy, have injury risk, or having disappointing seasons. Trying to find the diamond in the rough is like sweeping through a minefield, can easily land on a dud. There’s a lot of upside there and young prospects so they really need to do the homework to pick out the right guys. Also Atlanta is less likely to do a trade like this now with Keuchel signed
  25. The choppy mic feedback is killing me Edit: they fixed it
