We’d have to eat salary and give up a prospect. But there’s enough club control on Mike Clevinger to justify it. These are the type of deals they need to explore if we’re seriously contending 2020-2024.
Clevinger is a real possibility. Cleveland wants to hold him down at the alternate site so he loses a year of service, Clevinger may opt out of the season. There’s a real rift between Cleveland and what happened in the Plesac & Clevinger covid debacle. They’ll keep Plesac because he’s young and cheap.
Cleveland will be shopping Clevinger at the deadline next week, there’s already a connection with Shatkins. He’d also be great recruiting help for Trevor Bauer, they’re practically bros. Clevinger won’t be a free agent until 2023, but he’s arb eligible. Cleveland is trying to shed salary to possibly keep Lindor.
Blue Jays have already announced they’re looking for quality starting pitching. I’d say do it. Adding another backend starter is meaningless, we have those.
