  1. I still cant believe this trade happened. When I saw the headline at 3:00am my first thought was along the lines of damn, Lawrie traded for some A level player with the same name as an all-star (as if the trade would serve as a mocking insult). Then I looked closer and the trade was to the A's. Still not willing to believe, I thought "what a coincidence, the A's have two guys with the exact same name in their organization... and wait, they both play 3B? ... *breath ... *another big breath ... HOLY s*** ITS THE JOSH f***ING DONALDSON!!!"
  2. Whatever it is, I didnt see Graveman or Nolin fitting into it.
  3. Well im going to miss Lawrie... in the same way that I would miss Kawasaki if he was part of the deal. Well done AA, now finish off our pitching and get us an outfielder.
  4. ever is a long time.. i think 400 is in reach
  5. Rumors like this are great for the bluejays. I wouldn't be surprised if the FO initiated with the intention of distancing themselves later. If Boston's FO is convinced that Toronto is planning on bidding on the same player then chances are Boston's own bid is increased: Competition and freemarket blah blah blah. Ultimately it is to Toronto's benefit if division rivals overpay... especially on health adverse players. Who else is Toronto supposedly interested in? Oh right, Lester. To further confirm my theory that Toronto is trying to f*** over Boston, I give you one name: Juan Francisco. And just in case you are wondering, yes I wear a hat constructed of tinfoil with a jays emblem stuck to it.
  6. imo backloading makes sense with this roster. By 2017 we will have replaced expensive pitching contracts with cheap (but quality) rookies.
  7. Bautista and Encarnacion will still have value at the end of the 2015 season. Yankees are the weakest they have been in decades. Boston is coming off a bad season. TB is dumping everyone except the batboy. Pitching looks better than it did last year. Jays had the third best WAR at DH last season in MLB. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=dh&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=0&type=8&season=2014&month=0&season1=2014&ind=0&team=0,ts&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0 As it stands, Navarro will likely take Lind's spot as DH. Last year Navarro hit .310; .789 OPS; 123 wRC+ in 77PA as DH. I admit it is a low sample size but even his season stats at all positions were decent enough to make up for the fact that he doesn't have to platoon. Why throw in the towel now?
  8. I thought we just picked up a 2B prospect?
  9. I like that we dont lose a draft pick for a 2B. This frees up a lot of money to be spent elsewhere as well. Good trade for us though I really liked Gose's Defense and that is going to be hard to replace. This only looks bad if the FO was relying on Melkey resigning and no plan B.
  10. I kinda wish this contest had JP Arancibia in it... although there would need to be a new category for "not signed at all". I doubt the Japanese would go for it.
  11. Just out of curiosity: Can anyone sight an example of "Jays interested in signing PLAYERX" that actually became a reality?
  12. Saying you are "interested" in making a deal for someone is meaningless to me. Until I see ink drying on a contract it is either a rumor with no basis or one that is deliberately fabricated to say "hey look at us, we are doing things... and stuff". The pessimist in me is thinking that one by one these free agents are going to sign until we are left with Sierra and Rasmus reincarnated. Meanwhile the optimist in me is sitting in the corner, finger in his ears going "la la la la la la la". Dear FO: make a move before the rest of my hair falls out.
  13. It looks like everyone has rejected their QO. http://www.cbc.ca/sports/baseball/mlb/melky-cabrera-turns-down-jays-qualifying-offer-1.2830523
  14. Chappy good god man what happened to your face?
  15. whoops! my Blue Jays offseason free agent spending should read 120. Apparently i f***ed that up. I certainly didnt mean to say they would spend 120,000,000,000,000,000.... although that would make me really happy they would probably still waste it on some washed up losers

  17. The Os sucked before Showalter. He joined the team in 2010 when they were 32-73 (worst in the Majors), under him they went 34-23. Then he ends their 12 year streak of sub .500 seasons and reaches the playoffs for the first time in 15 years... and just like this year, no one was talking positively about their lineup at the beginning of the 2012 season. He kind of f***ed it with the Yanks and Arizona but I cant deny that he has been magic for Baltimore.
  18. Gibbons is AA's insurance policy. If the beginning of the season had gone poorly, I think you would have seen him fired at the all-star break. But that June surge bought AA (and Gibbons) some time. Im 90% sure he will be fired in the offseason. His use of replay (ie: throwing a challenge before he gets the heads up on gut instinct), BP management (ie: remember the time he killed Wagner's arm?), s***** platooning and bad record across two seasons would be enough to get a lot of managers fired... but that's not why he will get fired: its to save AA's skin.
  19. Im ready to give anyone else a shot at this point. Gibbons had his shot and couldn't make it work: Time to move on.
  20. The guy hit over 50 HR on it last year. Struggled at the beginning of this year (presumably without it) then rips it up in the second half when he gets caught using it again.... and you don't see an advantage?
  21. Cubs wishing the mercy rule was another difference between NL and AL
