  1. This offseason has been about as big a disaster PR wise as you can get. Its a shame because the team is still really good yet by public reaction you would think last year never happened.
  2. Lol that isn't how it works... My guess is they want the best team as possible and that would have Hutch as the #5 starter with Chavez the long man.
  3. I just don't see how Smoak had leverage in negotiations. Of all the teams needing 1st baseman the Blue Jays were the best opportunity. If the Jays offered 2.5 or 3 Million Smoak likely takes that.
  4. That does not mean you have to give him 3.9 Million...
  5. I think giving Smoak 3.9 was still a mistake even if the projected arb. was incorrect. Seems if they non-tendered him they could of got him for 3 Million or less. There really wasn't a FA market for Smoak.
  6. Either MLBTR lowballed the Jays players or whoever is handling the arb. on the Jays is doing a bad job. Couple hundred K doesn't seem like much but when you do that for 4 or 5 players it can be the difference of a decent reliever.
  7. pretty sure Storen is making quite a bit more than that. Arb. is all about Saves for relievers. Edit: There you go, 8.375 for Storen.
  8. Is it Tinnish who is the main guy doing contract negotiation and arb. for the Jays?
  9. Most people peg Kennedy around 3/36 while Gallardo looks to be in line for 3-4 years at 13-15 Million.
  10. The Idiots at Rogers have no idea what a farm system is. They were willing to trade Hoffman for Dan f***ing Duquette less than a year before. All Rogers cares about is money, they loved those trades.
  11. If they are going to go after a player with draft pick comp. I'd rather go after Kennedy. Should be cheaper and he is a lot better than Gallardo.
  12. Wonder if Donaldson had 3 straight 7 win seasons and another couple top 3 MVP finishes it would be enough to get him in. He obviously lost a chunk of what was supposed to be his prime years but if he has a few good seasons after age 33-35 it might be close.
  13. I think the more likely scenario was Beeston and Rogers put pressure on him to make those deals than AA himself.
  14. Kyle Lowry is going to be worn down in the second half again. Played 42 Mins in regulation.
  15. I see Hutch in the rotation and Chavez as the long man out of the pen to start the season.
  16. I think some of that has to do with just the failure of prospects in general. As the competition gets tougher players will stall in their development. Even the best development programs will have players fail. The key is to having the resources that allow players to perform to the best of their abilities.
  17. I liked what he said about recovery. I wonder if the team will send the opening SP on a road trip the night before so he can get a better sleep instead of flying in at 3AM the night before he starts. That seems like a small competitive advantage that you hear Shapiro/Atkins constantly referencing.
  18. Really happy with Atkins so far. Player Development is such an important factor to team success that a lot of teams neglect. There was a reason why the Indians were able to develop so many good players.
  19. Sounds like his job in LA would be the exact same as his job in Toronto would be. Instead of it being Shapiro and Lacava its going to be Friedman and Zaidi in terms of a process. Moving to LA fulltime isn't so bad. Neither is improving his analytical side of things and learning from some of the best in the business. Seems like a great career move. http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/prime-time-sports-anthopoulos-breaks-down-his-new-job-in-los-angeles/?row=0&row_id=1617493
  20. I'd like to know if they plan on talking extensions with Stroman and Donaldson this offseason.
  21. They're using catapult and other data fitting devices to make sure they aren't being overworked if that is what you are thinking.
  22. Based on everything I've seen/read about them it leads me to believe they would evaluate it the same way. They are in favour of every player having an individual strength/conditioning program for each player so chances are they would evaluate health in the same way. It makes no sense to have an arbitrary innings limit for all pitchers.
  23. Rather do the opposite. Even though Bautista is older I think he has the much better chance of remaining elite.
  24. Pretty sure the Jays got rid of the whole "inning limits" and evaluating a workload by that. Instead they are going to look at the player's individual health throughout the season and if he needs a break whether it be a skipped start or a few days off in the pen they will do that. Personally, I think this is the way to go. Blanket statements like this player shouldn't increase his innings pitched by "x" amount doesn't make much sense when there is so much better information you can evaluate a player's health by.
