  1. The Jays aren't going to win. I know this because Baltimore and Tampa are losing, and gaining ground on the rest of the teams in the East is not something we like to do.
  2. I remember last season in a game against Boston, Stroman had a no hitter going into I think the 7th inning and I was so relieved he gave up a hit because lord knows how high his pitch count would have gone if he didn't. Poor Marco Estrada wasn't given the same luck. He threw 250 pitches in two starts unnecessarily in an attempt to accomplish something that ultimately would have been meaningless even if he achieved it. Now we have to suffer through the "post 130 pitches" meltdown.
  3. Guys, Navarro is not being showcased. He's a back-up catcher that the manager and GM both like way too much, and this is what we will have to live with the rest of the season.
  4. Wiping your ass with Bowden's opinion would be an insult to your ass. Bowden is trash.
  5. Is Gray arbitration eligible after this season? If so, Beane might move him. Just because.
  6. I could see AA doing Norris, Pentecost, and filler for Hamels. Fits right in with the Marlins deal.
  7. Never. As long as Gibbons is wobbling around the Jays dugout, this thread shall live on.
  8. Smoak is a better long-term piece than Colabello. Don't let a hot streak fool you.
  9. If you play inferior players then your chances of success drops. Maybe not in a single game but definitely over the course of a season. Gibbons routinely does this. Wanting a manager that knows who his best players are is not much to ask for.
  10. Dickey/Greaseball was the one game I felt uneasy about in this series. Jays should aim for the next 2/3 (obviously 3/3 would be better but trying to be realistic).
  11. Well, he did bench Rasmus last September for no real on-field reason.
  12. Is it realistic at all to acquire pitching at the deadline while shipping Dickey to a 3rd team for salary relief? Boyd and Norris are better than Dickey already.
  13. Goins in LF. Boxcar approves.
  14. Hamels to the Jays for DJ Davis, Aaron Sanchez, and Matt Smoral. Sabermetrics, by Ruben Amaro.
  15. My hypothetical for Reddick was if they traded Edwin for Strasburg, so including a young pitching prospect for a very good hitter to replace EE in that scenario would be fine with me. Not a fan of trading for Reddick with the team's current needs, though.
  16. Smoak is having a better offensive season, has higher upside, better ratios (BB%, HR, etc), and provides more defensive value. I don't have the time to look at all your examples to see who was benched in favor of those guys but I'd be surprised if it was a better option benched in favor of a back-up catcher that couldn't hit in any of those examples. The only exception might be the Yankees since "respect" means playing a vet until he retires, but even then I'd be surprised. FYI, if Gibbons played Navarro 2 times a week like a normal back up catcher should, I wouldn't be complaining. No one else would either. Considering I'm not the only one who hates Navarro's playing time, maybe, just maybe, the criticism might be valid??
  17. I could see Beane coveting Boyd more than most teams would. Who else the Jays would have to include for Reddick is another story since Beane is so unpredictable trade-wise. I just listed Boyd as a starting point.
  18. Look at his actions, not his words. He's not trading Navarro. When he really wants to trade someone, see Adam Lind.
  19. Yep. Smoak is getting the shaft. The sad part is he's actually hitting well enough to keep the starting job. Nepotism in full force.
  20. This is beating a dead horse, but what trade value?? Giving him reps at DH is not going to make teams covet him for a catching position when they could have gotten him a few months ago if they really wanted him. He is still on this team because they like him. If they do trade him, it would probably be if he threw a fit publicly, and even his spring trade request was ignored. He's not being showcased.
  21. LOL. Please enlighten me on which s***** back-up catcher got extensive reps at DH over far better options on another team. Last five years, ten years, whatever. I know you're an idiot, so I will point out that using DH to periodically rest starting catchers is not the same.
  22. Make that trade and then trade Boyd for Reddick (or equivalent). If you don't replace Edwin's bat, then Navarro will play every damn day and bat 4th. Not worth it.
  23. Don't get it twisted. If Edwin were traded then Navarro would be the DH and Smoak or Colabello at first. The offense would be a lot worse, especially when CC starts hitting into outs.
  24. Yep it defies logic. Edwin is injured and sucks defensively. Navarro historically cannot hit rhp at all. Smoak is better against rhp and is the best defensive first base option on the team. I mean, would any other manager in baseball play Navarro at DH in this situation?
  25. Even with the unbalanced schedule, I think the two WC spots will be won by the AL East. The rest of the league is mediocre at best.
