  1. https://www.baseball-reference.com/managers/gibbojo02.shtml
  2. Lol yes I couldn't stand him in 2015. That year was so frustrating in the first half given how bad I thought his managing was. It's amazing what happens when you remove AA and put in Shapiro/Atkins. Props to Gibby for being able to adjust his managing. Lord knows if Shapiro tried to work with Cito, it would have ended a lot differently.
  3. Yup. His 2015 managing was so horrendous it made me want to vomit, but the moment the new front office came in, he's been a lot better. He's basically our Clint Hurdle. Old school dude who listens to the front office and is not so set in his ways that he can't change. His 2016-17 work has been his best.
  4. Should be Pearce at DH and Grandy in LF against RHP, and then Pearce in LF and Morales at DH against lefties. But then we’d have carry a slow as dirt DH as a platoon bat off the bench, which would suck.
  5. I know this won’t be popular but how many more years do the Jays have to play in this shithole before opening day? This is AA’s wet dream. He’s no longer here. Let’s move on.
  6. The issue with calling up Vlad is if the team is out of the race, there's no reason to call him up and start his service clock, and if the team is in the race, who does he replace on the big league roster? If they are trying to get him to become a competent 3B, then he's likely better off playing 3B somewhere rather than DH'ing because Morales sucks. In the latter scenario, the Jays would be better off trading some 40 man roster clutter for a mid season rental than promoting Vlad so early. To me, it's becoming more likely that Vlad is the starting 3B in 2019 after JD bolts. His bat is damn near ready now, and one more year of seasoning might be all he needs. For service time issues, I'm being greedy though. Call him up mid-season 2019. Unfair to the player, but dammit I want Vlad in a Jays uni as long as possible!
  7. Qdoba > Chipotle.
  8. According to TSN, Bichette and Vladdy will start in AA, and Pearson in Dunedin.
  9. I don’t think so either but I’ve learned to never doubt Rogers meddling.
  10. I could see Vlad as starting 3B in 2019 if there is a backlash for losing JD and the team does it for optics reasons. Otherwise, I'd say Solarte will cover the spot for a bit, and then Vlad comes up mid-2019. Bichette is more unpredictable since he's not as good of a prospect as Vlad is (which isn't a knock). He might be half a season behind Vlad in development, but we won't really know until they start playing in AA/AAA.
  11. Well apparently the Jays are trying to find a way to not start the season off like hot s*** so maybe resting JD more and not rushing Tulo back are part of a greater plan.
  12. The player has to want to sign with the team, too.
  13. It would be so great if the Jays could make the playoffs, even if it's a one game WC, while they are transitioning into their next core group. I want that old Cards magic where they can lose stars and not miss a beat. Get a few WC appearances, keep that revenue up, and then be ready for when Vlad and Bo explode on the league.
  14. That is probably the opening day lineup construction, just replace Solarte with JD and Hernandez with Grichuk.
  15. Well, the first step to change is acknowledging the problem, right? I'm not expecting him to launch balls in the air at a higher rate than normal, but at least he and the team both seem aware of the issue. A vetrin like him could easily be stubborn. Since his exit velocity is still very high, maybe some kind of mechanical correction can help him out. Couldn't hurt at this point, not like he's going anywhere.
  16. It was one year of Halladay, and the Jays (for some reason that blows my mind since he was arguably the best pitcher in the game at the time) also chipped in cash in the deal. Return was Drabek, Taylor, and d'Arnaud. Taylor was flipped for Wallace almost immediately. Wallace was then flipped for Gose in mid-2010. Then four years later, Gose was flipped for Travis. I say let JD test free agency. If the market for him is soft due to all the competition next winter, then the Jays can always circle back to him. They have Solarte, Diaz, and possibly Vlad to replace him in 2019, but if he ends up coming back, then they have the depth/versatility to move pieces around. JD's age is going to be an issue for whatever contract he gets. Five years is a huge risk.
  17. He has said he'd retire before he moves off short. Which would actually help the Jays, so I hope he stays true to that.
  18. Maese out for the year after shoulder surgery. Not good for him.
  19. So many players intentionally getting hurt so they could spend more time with Huffman. I see what they're doing.
  20. Wow, after seeing the video I agree with Verlander 100%. That was horrible. Manfred seems to suspend players for being accused of domestic violence (whether they actually did it or not is irrelevant). This case should be pretty cut and dry.
  21. Manfred wants to attract millennials, but has no f'n clue how to do it. This change won't happen right away, but it will happen. Manfred's quest to attract young fans by changing the game rather than changing the way MLB actually promotes the game and its stars.
  22. Grichuk will have a 3+ WAR in '18. I was going to put this in the bold predictions thread but I'll say it here. Athletic dude in right field who can run, defend, and hit homers. The K/BB is the scary part but I think playing everyday without worry of losing his spot plus the new ball park will help him.
  23. The roster + depth is probably capable of 82-85 wins. Some bad luck with injuries will drop that total, and some luck with health, performance, etc, could bump it up. Pretty similar to the Jays teams in the 2000s that always finished above .500 but in distant 3rd place. In this case, there is a chance for a 2nd wild card if things break right due to how s***** the league as a whole is.
  24. With Tulo's injury, I wonder if there is a way to trade some bubble 40 man roster players for a backup SS. Start Diaz, have a real backup, and let Tulo miss 75% of the season without worrying about Gift getting PA's.
  25. Yeah if the Jays were going to cut Morales, they would have done it a while ago, especially with so many bargain signings the past few months. They liked him enough to sign him for three years to begin with, so we just have to hope he hits again.
